St. Valentine's Day is not rooted in modern romance culture-it is rooted in the Catholic Church. The day honors St. Valentine, a 3rd-century Roman priest who lived during intense Christian persecution. According to tradition, he secretly celebrated Christian marriages when the emperor attempted to forbid them, believing that marriage was sacred and blessed by God. For his faithfulness to Christ and the Church, Valentine was arrested, imprisoned, and eventually executed on February 14. His witness was not about flowers or sentiment-it was about sacrificial love rooted in truth.

Over time, the culture remembered his name but softened his story. Yet at its core, Valentine's Day remains a Catholic feast day commemorating a martyr who gave his life for Christ and for the sanctity of marriage. True love, as St. Valentine lived it, is not fleeting emotion but covenantal, self-giving, and faithful even unto death. The holiday began not as a celebration of feelings, but as a remembrance of a saint who showed that love is strongest when it is anchored in Christ.

No one disputes that the Bible is the word of God. However, the Bible did not fall from the sky. God chose to work through fallible men to write the Scriptures-from the Law and the Prophets, to Christ Himself working through His fallible apostles.

Christ's promise to remain with His Church until the end of the age means that the Holy Spirit (John 20:22-23) continues to work through those He appoints-beginning with the apostles, through their successors, and down to our own time.

For this reason, the claim that Christians do not "follow fallible men" simply does not hold. God has always worked through fallible instruments. This remains true whether one holds to Scripture alone or not.
