Guiding nature back to balance, and people back to nature

South East QLD • Northern NSW

POSTS STORIES REELS

A place designed to be experienced slowly, with nature always close.

In collaboration with @prandiumstudio and @matt_arcke the underlying intent for River Hearth House was to restore vitality to the land and create a landscape deeply connected to the home.

From the living room, a mature tree sits in the foreground, drawing the garden close and framing a quiet view toward the river beyond.

Playful round pavers give way to natural stone steppers and boulders, weaving through native riparian species that bring softness, habitat and life back to the site.

An arrival through shades of green.

At Spring St, soft edges and shifting foliage create a calm transition home, a moment to slow down and leave a little of the city behind.

Dichondra ‘Silver Falls’, Westringia and Grevilleas bring together silvery greens, soft movement and varied form, creating a planting palette that is both relaxed and resilient.

Chosen specifically to respond well to Brisbane’s strong sun and summer months, these hardy Australian natives hold their colour and character while softening the front of the home.

A home held within the landscape.

Layers of Australian natives, where Silver Wattles, Gums, Casuarinas and sprawling groundcovers create habitat, movement and life.

And the cockatoos seem to agree.

Framed from within.

At Beck St, timber windows open the home directly into the courtyard garden, drawing the landscape closer and softening the boundary between inside and out.

Step through and you’re immediately immersed in planting.

We were very fortunate to collaborate with @matt_arcke and @danyoungla on a garden designed not just to be seen, but to be lived in.

Dilkera, unfolding in layers.

Planting spilling from above, softening the built forms and adding another dimension to the gardens.

Beneath it, the experience becomes lush and immersive. A place to sit, wander and take in the garden from every angle.

Living artworks.

At key moments throughout Dilkera, 200-year-old Grass Trees (Xanthorrhoea glauca) emerge as prominent sculptural features.

Each was hand-selected and carefully positioned for its form, scale and relationship to the surrounding garden.

Rescued from development sites, these age-old trees were given another place to grow, supported by the soil, extensive drainage systems and site conditions they need to establish well.

There’s something deeply inspiring about working with living forms that have existed for hundreds of years before us, and creating the conditions for them to continue long after.

A breathing centre of the home.

Soft, dense and full of life, the garden creates a moment of calm at the heart of Grove Garden.

Nature, taking back space.

Planting spills, climbs and stretches beyond its edges, softening built forms and slowly reclaiming the space around it.

Just how we like it.

A stone water feature and a garden seat emerging from native grasses.

A quiet place to sit still, gather with friends and enjoy the sounds of nature around us.

Wilgarning, perched at the crest of a hill.

Layers of native planting surround the pool and weave throughout the landscape, creating pockets of shade, shelter and habitat.

Working with the existing trees and natural contours of the hillside, flowering shrubs, wispy grasses and sprawling groundcovers provide habitat for local wildlife while helping to stabilise the soil and protect the land from erosion.

A lush, naturalistic garden that shelters the home while embracing the expansive vistas beyond.

A quiet place to gather.

Nestled on the banks of the Brisbane River, the garden at Glenrae offers a place to unwind and enjoy the natural environment that surrounds it.

A fire pit, two four-legged companions and a little time to take it all in.

Inviting nature back into the concrete jungle.

At Bide, the shared outdoor living areas were prioritised as the breathing heart of the buildings.

Lush subtropical planting emerges through the concrete, creating layers of greenery, shade and habitat. A protected space for residents to rest, slow down and reconnect with nature.

A little more room for nature to thrive, even in the heart of the city.
