Why “SUBURBIA”? In Brazil, “suburbia” isn’t just a place. It also means poverty, social exclusion, growing up where nothing comes easy. That’s where I come from. This is where I come from. (The photo shows the simple place where I spent most of my life and my teenage years, from that time, no filter, just how it was.) In the 90s, Green Day was there with me, in their songs. I can’t explain it. It’s not logic, it’s feeling. Something in them and in their music lifted me up when I needed it the most. They were there, in a figurative way, through the music. A kind of light in the dark. When I decided to create this profile as a tribute to Green Day, it came naturally. Through guitar, covers, things I find interesting about them, parts of my collection over the years, everything they mean to me. It’s my way of expressing what I carry. And of course, the name “Suburbia” that I use has a direct connection to “Jesus of Suburbia”. But it’s not just about that. Suburbia also means where I come from. And that’s part of who I am. This post isn’t about romanticizing something that shouldn’t be romanticized. Struggle is not something to glorify. And finally, this profile isn’t about me. It’s about Green Day. I just wanted to share this so people can understand the meaning, the purpose of this profile, and what the band represents to me. And also to remind how powerful music can be. How it can carry you through your hardest moments. Value that. Value your bands, your idols, the people who make music and keep this feeling alive. Kerplunk — Where It All Began 💚 I first discovered Green Day sometime in 1993, through Kerplunk!. Back then, that album probably wasn’t even officially available in Brazil yet — I think it only arrived after Dookie hit. It was common to find pirated or recorded CDs and tapes from foreign bands that weren’t known here at the time. At an old record and rock shop that once existed in Santos/SP (land of Pelé), I came across one of those burned CDs, with a simple photocopied cover. The guy working there said, “you should listen to this — it’s good.” I trusted him. Took it home. And it was love at first listen — especially One of My Lies. That was the moment I discovered Green Day, even though I had no idea where they were from. I just knew I had found something that spoke directly to me. I listened to that CD endlessly until it was lost with time… but it never really left me. Dookie later came along to confirm and solidify the identity I already felt with Green Day. But it was Kerplunk! that introduced me to the band that would never leave my life — and it came at a time when I truly needed it. That raw and honest sound pulled me out of reality. And that’s why, to me, Kerplunk! will always be the most special and beloved album. 💚 Today, this LP spins often — giving a well-deserved rest to the original CD that’s been with me for many years. The year was 1996. I was 16, in the heart of my teenage years. The Insomniac album had already arrived in Brazil, and in a time without the internet or social media as we know today—when every bit of information felt like a distant treasure—I held something truly special in my hands: perhaps the first Green Day interview in the Brazilian press, published in the now-extinct SHOW BIZZ magazine. I can’t say for sure it was the very first, but at least it was the one with the greatest reach. I remember how much it struck me. Until then, my connection with the band was limited to a few clips on MTV and the albums that had been released. But there, in the pages of that magazine, I had my first real “encounter” with the trio: their ideas, the story of how the band was formed, even some controversies. That issue became a relic I’ve kept with me ever since. A memory that doesn’t age, carrying the same emotion of that 16-year-old kid who, with each detail, was realizing why Green Day would never leave my life again… 💚 #GreenDay #BillieJoeArmstrong #MikeDirnt #TreCool #Insomniac #Dookie by @greendayvibes

Me and Nimrod again, hehehe 🖤💛 Green Day playing Scattered on TFI Friday, a British TV show, in London, January 23, 1998. Scattered is about someone trying to put back together the pieces of a story left behind, and I think that’s why it moves me so much. This song takes me straight back to the late ‘90s. Redundant is one of my favorite Green Day songs, and the acoustic version is the one I love most. Hearing Billie Joe sing it with just his voice and an acoustic guitar is something really special to me. I’m not talking about vocal technique or anything like that. It’s about feeling, about what it stirs up inside. To me, it’s unlike anything else💚 This video is from Prague, June 29, 2010. Been away for a while, but I’m back 🤘🏾💚 And to kick things off, I picked one I really love: Green Day playing “Road to Acceptance” back in 1992, when they were still playing small clubs with the crowd right up against the stage. This show happened on May 24, 1992, at a place called McGregors in Elmhurst, just outside Chicago. 🎥 Footage and credit: Ultimate Spidey’s YouTube channel (“Green Day live @ McGregors 1992 (Full Show/60fps)”) The full show is on his channel and it’s worth watching. And a little tip: at one point during the show there’s a really unexpected and funny moment I had never seen before, hahaha. I won’t spoil it, so you’ll have to check it out 👀🤣💚 P.S.
