🌱💚 Maidstone Green Party – Save the Date!

📅 Saturday 21st November

🕛 12 PM – Executive Meeting
🕐 1 PM – Members’ Meeting

Venue: TBC

We’re looking forward to bringing our members together to discuss what MGP is working towards and how we can build on our growing momentum across Maidstone.

We’d also love to hear from anyone interested in taking on a more active role within the local party, whether that’s supporting Young Greens, Communications, Social and Community Organising, or helping us develop other areas of our work.

With the Town Council elections approaching, this is a great opportunity to get involved, share your ideas, develop new skills and help shape our priorities for the year ahead — including discussions around Local Government Reorganisation (LGR).

💚 We want MGP to be member-driven, and your voice should be at the heart of everything we do.

Please join us, bring your ideas, and invite friends or family who might be interested in becoming members and getting involved.

Let’s grow together and make a difference in Maidstone!

Maidstone Greens at Conference🤩 by @greenmaidstone

Cllr Stuart Jeffery sharing what we’ve been up to over the last couple of months on the Green-led Maidstone Borough Council!

Highlights include
- funding for nature restoration, farm clusters, pocket parks & green roof bus shelters
- 50 new council homes, and reopening our Housing Revenue Account
- balancing the books with an underspend for last year, which is being put to use tackling Violence Against Women and Girls
- tackling deprivation in the Town Centre and progressing on Article 4 by @greenmaidstone

This evening the Conservatives brought a motion to council asking us to write a letter to government on water - something we’ve already done.

They spoke in support of our work to date, which includes meeting with the Chief Executive of South East Water, and writing to the relevant Minister on multiple occasions. This work started months ago, with the most recent letter dated 28th September.

Despite standing up to say that they weren’t bothered about the content of the letter, they used a meeting procedure to force us into a vote whether intentionally or not, to send the motion straight to Cabinet, rather than being discussed at the relevant Committee. This would have required us to use the specific wording in their motion.

This is included a halt on all house building in the borough, which would have included our programme of work to build 1000 affordable homes in Maidstone, something which we were not prepared to do in such black and white terms. by @greenmaidstone

Have you spotted the new pocket parks in town, introduced by the Green-led Council?

Cllr Stephen Thompson was enjoying them himself this week!

"Maidstone has become a more pleasant place to visit and spend time now that three new pocket parks are open at the boundary of our pedestrian area.

Comfortable benches provide a place to sit for a chat and a snack on work breaks or out shopping. More of our community life can now be shared in attractive surroundings right in the centre of town!" by @greenmaidstone

Maidstone GP members have been out supporting @tunbridgewellsgreenparty, campaigning to elect Max Chesters in Cranbrook!🗳️

🗨 "If [Andy Burnham] really wants to bring back hope, he needs to tax the wealthy, take water and energy back under public ownership, bring in rent controls, and say no to new North Sea drilling".
