EVAPORATE. Shall we remind @markjcarney that parts of the weapons to do this were manufactured in Canada, sold to the United States without oversight and then sent to Israhell?

Is it Canada Strong to send arms parts and explosives to an apartheid state committing war crimes?

Or is it Canada Complicit?

As a signatory to the Arms Trade Treaty, Canada is legally obligated to NOT SELL weapons to be used in war crimes, human rights abuses and breaches of iNtErNaTiOnAl LaW.

Mark Carney made a very grand speech at Davos last month where he talked about not going along to get along and taking signs out of windows.

If these words are going to be meaningful, they need to be backed by action.

Carney and the government have an opportunity to back up the statements with tangible change. The #NoMoreLoopholes bill will be voted on by Parliament this month - it MUST pass.

To stop the sale of arms to ICE. To stop the sale of arms to Israhell. To stop the sale of arms to the many other war crime zones Canada is profiting off of.

It’s sick. Let’s stop it.

📺 Tomorrow morning (9:30am ET), you can watch the court case begin live at the Supreme Court (link in bio).

When Ontario Place first opened in the '70s along the Toronto waterfront, it was designed as an accessible public space for all to gather, connect, and experience.

➡️ Today, Ontario Place is becoming a site for Doug Ford to roll out his pro-corporate political agenda with a redevelopment project that would include a private spa, funded by billions of Ontario taxpayer dollars.

⚖️ This fall, we are going to see Doug Ford in court to appeal the Rebuilding Ontario Place Act (ROPA), the legal groundwork that paved the way for this redevelopment project.

➡️ ROPA ensured that the redevelopment of Ontario Place was exempt from many flagship Ontarian laws, including the Environmental Protection Act and the Ontario Heritage Act (that aims to protect our cultural heritage). ROPA and Bill 5 contain clauses that shield the government from anticipated legal challenges, meaning they built the legal framework that prevented public accountability.

The Ford government is not redeveloping Ontario Place because it is in the public interest. Instead, he is ramming through a pro-corporate agenda that will grant a private spa company a 95-year lease—on public lands—while costing Ontario taxpayers up to $2.2 billion. 💰

🍁 The Ontario redevelopment and the legislation that enabled it could set a dangerous precedent for Canada. Doug Ford has brazenly platformed corporate interests while shoving public accountability and nature protections to the side. At the federal level, Carney is proposing to do the same through the Bulldoze Nature Bill (Bill C-39).

That’s why we’re taking this fight to court.

We are legally intervening (alongside other allied organizations) to challenge the erasure of public accountability and rollback of environmental safeguards, and to defend the principle that public interests should always come before private ones.

They call themselves the ‘Energy in Action’ network…

All built to look independent
But all funded by the same undisclosed group.

Our Investigations team looked at the evidence from internal documents on the network’s own platform that lays out their plans, including parts they probably didn’t think would go public. What did we find? Well, here’s a peek…

👉They pick targets on purpose. Women, youth, students, Indigenous communities… No one is safe from these pro-oil and gas campaigns. They pay for digital and television ads, in-person events, and school curriculums. Their messages can appear like the legitimate voices of the public, when they are effectively paid advertising.

👉And, they showcase it. The network coordinates and meets behind closed doors with materials that explicitly spell out how to shape public opinion in favour of fossil fuels, running briefings twice a year at the Calgary Petroleum Club to report back to their funders.

This is what we’re up against.

Not just pipeline deals in Ottawa, but an entire apparatus that appears built to make you think the public wants those deals, too.
