This is a departure from my normal posts but I'd appreciate it if you read this til the end. My family history has always been long and complicated, and today, July 23rd, 2026, I lost a very, very major part of mine. Anna Marie Vermilyea was my mother. Though my biological mother was the one who brought me into this world, Marie was one of the first people to hold me in the hospital room. She saw me and instantly knew she was happy being my mother and knowing that gave her purpose and hope.I grew up with her for the most formative years of my life. She imprinted so much of her loving, caring, and adventurous personality onto me as well as the capacity to unconditionally love others. She taught me how to ride a bike, how to fix said bike, how to ride an ATV, how to do an oil change on said ATV. She taught me life lessons in the most fun and engaging way possible. And she always, and I mean ALWAYS had room and capacity to sit down with you if you were going through the hard stuff and listen. She was like a lighthouse to the world, inviting unconditional love and peace to those around her. I can't put into an Instagram caption just how many wonderful memories I have with her throughout my life. She raised me as her son, and gave me half my last name.December 2024 she was diagnosed with cervical cancer, and had a really long fight with it. Her immune system would respond drastically to typical means of treatment (immunotherapy). She tried so hard to stop it in its tracks, but in the end, I ended up running her to the emergency room on May 17th, 2026. There we were told she only has 90 days left and was put into hospice. Today I received the news that her suffering had ended. She lost the fight but won the war, and I know in my mind her spirit will always be watching and caring over me. Still, I feel so much pain and longing for her.Ma, please rest easy and enjoy keeping those around you safe with that beautiful spirit of yours. I'll always love ya beyond words. Beyond measurement. You'll always have a hand in making me who I am and for that I'm honored. Rest in peace and light. 💜💜💜 by @greenteagabe
