šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø D-DAY CAME ALIVE June 6, 1944—the day thousands of Americans stormed the beaches of Normandy and changed the course of history. šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø

Dr. John C. McManus gave a fascinating presentation Thursday evening at the Audie Murphy/American Cotton Museum in Greenville on D-Day and the Big Red One’s landing at Omaha Beach.

The legendary 1st Infantry Division—the ā€œBig Red Oneā€ā€”landed directly into the fury of Omaha Beach. Dr. McManus brought the experiences of those soldiers to life and reminded us of the extraordinary courage and sacrifice behind one of the most important days in American history.

If you love WWII, military or American history, Greenville has something special: the Texas World War II History Roundtable—Audie Murphy Chapter.

More outstanding lectures are planned later this year—and admission to the lectures is FREE.

Father’s Day may have passed, but memories like these never do. ā¤ļø Kristen Perkins Glover and Katie Perkins Clark gave Donna and me the greatest gift imaginable—a day surrounded by our amazing grandchildren at the Dallas Children’s Aquarium at Fair Park.

Watching little eyes light up as sharks, stingrays, colorful fish, and sea creatures came into view was a reminder that life’s richest moments aren’t things we buy… they’re the moments we share.

As Rick Warren said, ā€œThe best use of life is love. The best expression of love is time. The best time to love is now.ā€ That perfectly describes this special day.

If you’re blessed with children, grandchildren, or loved ones, don’t wait for the ā€œperfectā€ time. Make the memories. Take the trip. Share the laughter. Those moments become treasures that last forever.

What’s one family memory you’ll never forget? I’d love to hear it in the comments. ā¤ļø #FathersDay #FathersDayMemories #FamilyTime #Grandkids #DallasChildrensAquarium Father’s Day celebration, Dallas Children’s Aquarium, Fair Park Dallas, family memories, grandparents with grandchildren, Dallas family activities, things to do in Dallas with kids, Texas family adventures, family day trip, making memories, Greenville Texas, North Texas family, East Texas, quality family time, Rick Warren quote, multigenerational family fun. taken in Children's Aquarium Dallas at Fair Park by @greenvilledan

I thought I knew what Palo Duro Canyon looked like… until day two proved me completely wrong. Around every bend the landscape transformed—from towering cliffs and rugged mountains to massive boulder fields, winding riverbeds, and peaceful trails that felt like stepping into another world.

If you’ve only seen photos of Palo Duro Canyon, they don’t come close to capturing the scale, beauty, and diversity of this incredible place. Along the way, we were treated to sightings of wild turkeys and roadrunners, making the experience even more unforgettable. This is one destination every Texan—and every traveler—should experience at least once.

Day two at Palo Duro Canyon State Park was everything we hoped for. Donna and I spent the day hiking sections of the legendary Givens, Spicer & Lowry (GSL) Trail, climbing through towering red rock walls, winding singletrack paths, and unforgettable canyon views. Every turn revealed another reason Palo Duro is called the Grand Canyon of Texas.

The weather couldn’t have been more perfect. Every mile, every overlook, and every conversation reminded us that life’s greatest adventures aren’t measured by how far you hike—but by who hikes beside you.Have you hiked Palo Duro Canyon? One hour made all the difference. Donna and I walked into 1846 at 5:30 Wednesday evening without a reservation. By the time we left around 6:30, people without reservations were being turned away.

That tells you something.

We started with the cornbread—which honestly tastes more like an incredible dessert than traditional cornbread. Then we split the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables, and every bite was excellent. My strawberry salad with goat cheese, grapes, candied pecans, and fresh greens was one of the best salads I’ve had in Greenville.

What impressed me just as much was the atmosphere. Greenville finally has a locally owned restaurant that delivers a refined, upscale dining experience without losing its Texas hospitality. The service was attentive, the food arrived quickly, and the entire evening felt special.

If you haven’t tried 1846 yet, I’d recommend going soon—and if you’re planning to arrive after 6:00, making a reservation is probably a smart idea. Shout out to my friend and one of the owners R.W. Holleman. Great job!

Have you eaten there yet? I’d love to hear what you ordered and whether you’d go back. One stranger’s decision gave me a second chance at life. ā¤ļø

I was deeply honored that Greenville Life Magazine featured my kidney transplant story in its Spring 2026 edition.

On March 20, 2024, I received the greatest gift imaginable—a healthy kidney from a deceased donor. Every single day, I thank God, my donor, and my donor’s family. In the midst of their unimaginable loss, they made a decision that gave me more time with my wife, daughters, grandchildren, friends, and the community I love.

I hope my story encourages just one person to register as an organ donor. One simple ā€œyesā€ can save multiple lives and give families more birthdays, anniversaries, hugs, and memories together.

If you’re already an organ donor, thank you. If you’re not, I hope you’ll consider becoming one today. It could become the greatest gift you’ll ever give.

Please share this post so more people will learn about the life-changing impact of organ donation.

That moment when Spain scores—and even Kylian Mbappé’s lips appear to say, ā€œWe may be in trouble.ā€ šŸ˜‚āš½ļø

Spain struck first, Mbappé gave us the reaction of the match, and France never recovered. Spain’s 2–0 victory ended France’s championship dream and sent La Roja into the World Cup final.

In May, Donna and I explored Palo Duro Canyon—the second-largest canyon in the United States. Our adventure began with a scenic drive through the park before hiking the iconic Lighthouse Trail. Around every bend, the towering cliffs, colorful rock formations, and endless views reminded us just how incredible Texas really is.
Sometimes the best adventures aren’t across the ocean—they’re right here in our own backyard. If Palo Duro Canyon isn’t on your travel bucket list yet, it should be.

It’s only July 10, and Halloween has already arrived at Lowe’s in Greenville, Texas! šŸŽƒšŸ‘» One minute I’m out on my daily walk… the next I’m face-to-face with giant mechanical monsters that look ready to haunt the neighborhood.

Maybe I’m old-fashioned, but this feels a little early! Then again, Halloween fans wait all year for this moment.

So settle the debate…

When should stores start putting out Halloween decorations? July? August? September? Or should they wait until October?

Drop your answer in the comments, tag your biggest Halloween-loving friend, and let’s see where everyone stands. I have a feeling this debate is going to be more entertaining than the animatronics! #Halloween2026 #HalloweenDecor #SpookySeason #HalloweenDisplay #Lowes Halloween decorations 2026, Halloween animatronics, Lowe’s Halloween display, Lowe’s Halloween decorations, Halloween shopping, Greenville Texas, Dallas Texas, North Texas, East Texas, Halloween debate, spooky season, fall decorating, July Halloween, seasonal shopping, Halloween lovers, Texas shopping, viral Halloween Reel, Greenville Lowe’s, Halloween countdown taken in Lowe's Home Improvement by @greenvilledan

Leadership isn’t measured by the title you hold—it’s measured by the people you serve. That’s exactly why my longtime friend G. David Smith will make an outstanding President of the State Bar of Texas.

David’s theme, ā€œBringing It Home,ā€ is about strengthening the legal profession where it matters most—serving lawyers and communities at the local level across Texas. I’ve known David for many years, and I can say without hesitation that he leads with integrity, intelligence, an incredible work ethic, and, above all, the heart of a servant.

Texas lawyers are fortunate to have someone who understands that real leadership begins by listening, encouraging, and helping others succeed. Congratulations, David. I’m proud to call you my friend and look forward to watching the positive impact you’ll make across our great state. Blessings and best wishes for an incredible year! #StateBarOfTexas #TexasLawyers #LegalCommunity #Leadership #ServantLeadership State Bar of Texas, G. These aren’t replicas in a theme park—they’re the real Viking ships that changed history. Donna and I stood just feet away from 1,000-year-old vessels recovered from the Roskilde Fjord, where they had been deliberately sunk to defend the kingdom from invading enemies.
Even more incredible, master craftsmen are still building full-size Viking ships using the exact techniques their ancestors used centuries ago. Watching history come alive before our eyes was unforgettable. From the original Skuldelev ships to handcrafted reproductions that still sail the fjord today, this museum is one of the most authentic Viking experiences anywhere in the world.
If Viking history, archaeology, craftsmanship, or Scandinavian travel is on your bucket list, don’t miss this remarkable place. Which would you rather do—sail on a Viking ship or spend a day building one?
