Los Angeles is in an unprecedented state of neglect. I wrote on the treatment of historic venues in Hollywood and the connection to the current values of the motion picture industry for @artillery_mag.

As someone born in Los Angeles and as a seventh generation native of California, I feel passionately about the relationship between architecture, culture, and psychogeography in this city. It is not just a question of preservation, it is also an imperative to engage with the physical reality of the Dream Factory, which is, contrary to some belief, a real place.

𝘚𝘰𝘪𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘦 𝘦𝘵 𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘴-𝘵𝘰𝘪 (Be Pretty and Shut Up) is a 1976 documentary conceived and directed by actress and director Delphine Seyrig. Released in 1981, the documentary is a compilation of interviews with twenty four actresses (including Juliet Berto, Jane Fonda, Shirley MacLaine, and Anne Wiazemsky) discussing their experiences in the craft and industry of filmmaking.

𝘚𝘰𝘪𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘦 𝘦𝘵 𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘴-𝘵𝘰𝘪 was shot by Carole Roussopoulos, a groundbreaking feminist video artist and activist, who co-edited the film with Ioana Wieder.
