Ryan Mountain was the highest elevation I planned to visit at Joshua Tree and the last hike of my trip. wasn’t a difficult hike.. mostly even grade the entire time, but it winds back and forth and makes you wonder if the top is just around the next corner.

May or may not have gotten a bit of sunburn.. but it felt good to be in the warmth again.

Remembering what it felt like to wake up warm without using the heater in the van.

Even though I got to Joshua Tree NP later than I wanted to, I still was lucky enough to score a campsite in Hidden Valley AND enough daylight to explore a little bit. Spent the last of the daylight scrambling up the rock formations around the campsite and watching the sunset.

I still have a hard time slowing down. These are the times I’m reminded to just sit and observe in silence. If I didn’t, I’d miss out on moments like this.

This is only the beginning…

I had no idea how great this trip was going to be for me. When I first heard that I’d have two weeks of work in Phoenix I debated on just flying out, or driving the van. It takes roughly 24 hours to get to get out here, which is the most I’ve ever considered driving solo. I’m only halfway done with the week of exploring, and I can think of only a few things I could be doing that could be a better use of my time.

Made it all the way west to Joshua Tree National Park and spent two days and one night in the middle of a desert! 12 miles hiked, including the 1,069ft climb up Mount Ryan!

Today was quite the adventure.

I decided to drive down to Tucson and visit Saguaro National Park.
It isn’t my first National Park, but the first stamp I’ve collected (I didn’t know it was a thing!)

Now I want to collect them all 😊

I climbed to the top of signal hill, which admittedly was a short hike, but it was 86° dry desert midday and a two mile hike. Will plan better next time.
