Stephen Ambrose is one of those historian/writers Ive seen several times on the History channel. I hate to fo it but I'll have to give this book an 8 out of 10. It was an interesting read. Halleck, nicknamed Old Brains, was a great administrator for the Union Army.
He served as General in Chief for a couple of years, after McClellan but before Grant took over in 1864. He did great with paperwork and giving tasks to the field generals, keeping troops supplied with food, clothes, weapons etc but was not cut out for his own field command.
He rarely directed an order, instead letting the general in the field make the decisions. He was a shield for Lincoln doing what he was asked while taking the hits from angry generals and politicians.
Why 8 out of 10? There wete a few points that differed from other books I read, or skipped over their explanations. No big deal. Still an enjoyable book to read. by @gregmason125

So, I did a thing yesterday and this morning. I haven't been in a plane since 2005 and never something as small as a Cessna! @onewheelwespro flew me down to New Bern, NC. Once I got over my nerves from being up so high, it was an enjoyable flight! Leaving near sunset made for pretty skies.
We saw where Pepsi originated, which was a really cool bonus!!
Good food at Baxters, I had a chicken and cheese sandwich with fries.
We left to fly back at almost midnight and I admit I slept some on the way home. It had been a long time since 515am and im usually in bed by 11. Plus, I had an hour drive home after we landed, so i wanted a cat nap.
Wesley landed nicely! (See video). Another happy landing! I made it home just after 3. Been several years since id been out that late. by @gregmason125

Went and bought a hat today from the Norfolk vendors at Stark and Legum. Very nice, knowledgeable and professional. The gentleman who was at the counter showed me various hats until we narrowed it down.
If your interested go check them out! They also have suits and ties as well. by @gregmason125

A Great, in depth read! The book starts in the lead up to the Japanese Chinese war and covers not only the Emperor but those around him. Taking from letters, notes, diaries and recollections. Does not paint a picture of Emperor Hirohito as a saint nor a villain but tries to convey the truth of who he was and what happened.
Hirohito tried to act both as a Constitutional monarch, such as Great Britain and within the framework of the Meiji Constitution as well as navigating the various personalities who held the governmental and military positions without abusing his power.
It was often that he went against his personal thoughts since he felt constrained by how the government worked or didn't. The book also details how the military worked against itself and dictated how the government was to be ran.
Anyone who wants to read about the Japanese side of WW2 should read this book! by @gregmason125

Compiled and edited by Paul Gilbert, 2021. Gives a great overview of Grand Duke Michael's life. Broken up into 4 parts, milestones of GD Michaels life, the last days of Michael by Princess Olga Putyatina, photos from his private album and the final section is by Paul Gilbert.
Well written and put together. A great read for anyone looking to start or just for general knowledge of Grand Duke Michael's life. by @gregmason125
