For @gregoryblakesams, founder of @wentworthbygbs, museums are most compelling when they preserve not just art, but an entire and deeply personal world. He returns to Sir John Soane’s Museum in London for its eccentric accumulation of antiquities, architectural fragments, paintings and curiosities. His favorite object is the alabaster sarcophagus of Seti I. When Soane acquired it in 1824, he illuminated the house and hosted a three-night celebration for hundreds of guests. “I love the idea of being so taken with an object that you build a room around it and throw a party in its honor.” In Paris, Blake loves the Musée Nissim de Camondo, where furniture, porcelain, silver and paintings are presented together as part of a home. That same instinct shapes his approach to Wentworth. “I love mixing periods, styles, and provenance, and finding unexpected relationships between objects.
