Thank you for the birthday wishes this week.

Between closing MythicFest, 2 full productions opening in our venues this week, and getting a Freeway Circuit tour stop ready we’ve had barely any time to pause. We did get to Disneyland for a few hours on my birthday though.

Greg gave me these 2 hugging dogs. They’re 50 years old. And look pretty amazing for being half a century! My grandparents had these on their bed for as long as I can remember and they were the one thing I wanted from their home after my grandmother passed away, but no one was sure where they disappeared to. I thought of them randomly a few months ago and on a whim did a quick search on eBay and there they were. But no one else knew about them but me. I almost just bought them a few times but it always felt frivolous. I mentioned them in passing to Erin and Greg and they both remembered and got them for me. 🩷

My grandparents were married for 56 years (and still are I’m sure). These dogs look a little funny when they’re apart, but are perfect working together. Just like they were. Just like Greg and me. They were on my grandparents’ bed my whole life and now they’ll be on ours. Pretty great birthday present. by @gregorycrafts

On Saturday, July 25th, right at the end of that evening's performance of #SummerBlockbusters, our latest #NewPlayInADay challenge, Executive Director Gregory Crafts (@gregorycrafts) had the surprise honor of being presented a Certificate of Recognition from the City of Los Angeles on behalf of Theatre Unleashed.

This was a complete surprise, engineered by our friend and collaborator Marcela Barrientos (@marcelaxbarrientos) and facilitated by LA City Councilman Hugo Soto-Martinez of CD 13 and his office.

Theatre Unleashed is deeply honored to receive a Certificate of Recognition from the City of Los Angeles for our contribution to the arts and to our community. Our heartfelt thanks to Councilman Soto-Martinez (@cd13losangeles) and his office for this generous acknowledgment.

For years, we've believed that bold, independent theatre makes our city richer, and being recognized by the community we create for means the world to us. This encouragement fuels the work ahead.
