I’m beyond excited to share our first AD cover as a firm, the home of Paloma Elsesser @palomija. As an young designer, I’m grateful to be included in this issue alongside such talented colleagues.

This project took over three years and in that time, I grew as a designer, as a collaborator, and as a project manager. More than any other project, this home stretched our design possibilities and what we imagined was possible. It was like flexing a new muscle.

On the cover, you’ll see a large-scale textile collage (titled “Mary”) by the artist Erik Mack. I love the way all the textures, prints, and colors come together—bringing a series of gestures into a whole. For me, this piece is a microcosm of the entire project. I see this house, above all, as a conversation: between artisans, our team, and the person who gives life, heart, and meaning to this home, Paloma.

She worked so hard to make this project a reality, inspiring every decision we made with her selective vision and incredible taste. As she said in her own caption “homes are so much more than places to live; they’re where lives are built, joy and sorrow take shape, and countless memories are created.”

Home is such a fraught and heavy concept right now, especially as so many Angelinos are reckoning with the loss of their homes and their landscape. It’s difficult to celebrate anything amid this destruction. Paloma has a deep connection to LA, and she and GRI will be collaborating over the next few weeks on a fundraiser to benefit impacted LA residents.

I’m immensely grateful to my design comrade @hesteriah and her formidable eye. So many details in this project reflect her hard work, dedication and spirit. Thank you to our team @_janebrooks @henryboyle_. I’m so grateful to AD for the ways that they have showcased and uplifted emerging designers in this issue. Thank you to @archdigest team. Thinking about our Belgrade, Maine project, featured in @archdigest . I’ve been lucky to spend a little time up here again this summer, and there’s really nothing quite like Maine in August. Shot of the powder room in our Maine lake house project. Clad in real bark, moss still attached. This was definitely a “trust us” moment. Risky mostly because we secretly weren’t totally sure it would work either. But it did. Such a cool effect and really something people talk about when they walk in.

Maine Lake house living room. I love how this room turned out, it feels so cozy and comfortable. We wanted it to feel like it was layered over many decades by mixing contemporary items with 1970’s Swedish chairs and a stellar early 20th century vaulting bench.
