"love alive" The Album OUT NOW! ⬇️

POSTS STORIES REELS

My new single “janet” is OUT NOW!

I wrote “janet” inspired by one of the great artists of our time, who has influenced me along with countless others and has laid the groundwork for much of what we know as popular music, performance, and entertainment today. Twenty years ago, almost to the day, we did Ms. Jackson (If Your Nasty) wrong.

In spite of an unparalleled, over two decade career (at the time) of achievements and contributions to art and culture, one brief moment was enough for many to turn on her, and it felt symbolic of the ways we often treat ✊🏾 women and marginalized folks of all stripes.

So I wrote this song to give voice to that and to rewrite that story. Because if there is one thing Ms. J has taught me, it is that our creativity gives us the power to remake the world and reclaim our narratives.

When we step out of the made-up systems we were born into, the ones that teach us false notions of power over others and tell us that we have to constantly prove our worth, we find our true power and inherent worth, which were always untouchable, waiting for us.

“love on you” is OUT NOW! 🤩

It’s so exciting for me to be able to share the second single from my “love alive” album project. I wrote this song about how I want all my relationships, from hookups to dates to partners to be deep, passionate, sexy, connected, and intimate. All of that. 😋

Give it a listen and let me know if you vibe with it!

And if you like it, keep listening! Share it with a friend or a crush! Add it to a playlist with other songs that flow with it! All of those things will help me share the music with more people 🙏🏾

Shout out to @warren_trunz for mixing this track and all of the tracks on my album, @angelsanazco for the amazing photography for this song, and @sightsoundsentence for the incredible graphic design! Thank you to all the friends that listened to the track and offered feedback. And thank all of y’all for your support!

I hope the song leaves y’all feeling lifted and in the mood for love 🖤 by @gregosei

“caught the spirit” is OUT NOW! 🤩

It’s the first track off my album about radical love that I started recording back in 2020. I have been literally dreaming about the day I get to start sharing this music with the world, and it’s finally hear.

Listen wherever you listen to music. Then come let me know what you think!

And if you like it, listen more and add it to a playlist with songs that you think vibe with it! It’ll help me with the algorithm (as will sharing it with your friends ☺️).

Thank y’all so much for rocking with me! ❤️

IT’S MY BIRTHDAY 🥳🥰, which means that one year ago I released my first full album project.

I put four years of my time, energy, and heart into “love alive,” from writing and producing all of the songs to conceiving the visuals and planning the rollout. Putting out music as a totally independent artist is no small task, and I’m grateful that I was finally able to share this project with you and for all of the support I received from friends, family, collaborators, and all of you listeners. Times like these remind us that community is everything. Thank you, truly 🙏🏾

I haven’t been online much, and I’ve already got my eyes set on the next project, but I wanted to take a moment to celebrate not just another year of life but one year in the life of my creative baby ☺️

Celebrate with me and give the album a listen. I made it just for you ❤️ by @gregosei

Always considerate. Always mindful. Always demure. by @gregosei

I’ve had this gorgeous song by @indigogirlsmusic on my mind for the past few days. I still remember hearing “Ghost” for the first time my freshman year of college when fellow student Caren Perlmutter sang it at my school’s big a cappella jam for new students. Time froze for me as she sang the vivid lyrics and lived the story in front of us. To this day, Caren’s voice is one of my favorites and her rendition of that song is one of my favorite vocal performances ever.

That song and that performance set the bar for me: I hoped to one day write a song as lyrically evocative and sonically captivating as “Ghost” and to give a performance as powerful and present as Caren’s, which absolutely took the air out of the room and had an impact on me so lasting that I still remember it to this day.

Birthday Month (May) Dump || I finally released the album I put my heart, soul, and 4 years of my life into, I listened to it in community, I celebrated my birthday, I made new friends and cherished old ones, I danced, I laughed, I ATE 🤤, and I had numerous moments of joy and presence.

Today I’m grateful 🖤 by @gregosei

I found myself doing a lot of disentangling and reimagining when I was making this album. A lot of unpacking common assumptions and questioning conflated ideas and identities.

When I looked honestly at my own experience, I found that lots of things that I’d been told went together didn’t necessarily and lots of things I’d been told didn’t go together actually did.

We live in a moment in which the capacity to make these distinctions and hold these nuances is key to our moving forward constructively.

I’m a deeply thoughtful, spiritually-oriented, and sensitive romantic driven towards building a more loving, connected, conscious, and just world. I’m *also* a very sensual, adventurous, and decidedly *not* vanilla lover driven towards delicious moments of physical connection with others. As I write that, it’s kind of funny to me that we sometimes conceive of these things as incompatible with each other.

My last single “love alive” (and my album as a whole) explores how all those things can live together.

Making and sharing this music helped remind me that more often than we realize our experiences fall outside the boxes and binaries we’ve been taught.

It also helped me articulate the mission statement of the album: love in all of its expressions, including in its physical expression, is a creative, connective, and liberatory force to be reckoned with. by @gregosei

IT’S MY BIRTHDAY!

Exactly 4 birthdays ago, I was finishing up a one-month songwriting challenge that I’d started for myself in April 2020 while we were all locked away. I completed 18 songs in that month, and 6 of the 9 tracks on my album came out of that challenge.

That was the beginning of a 4-year process that has brought me to today when I can say on my birthday that I finally put out my first album, which I wrote, produced, and poured my heart into.

Sooooo the most delicious gift you could give me on my special day is to give my new album a listen (or many 😜) and let me know what it left you with ❤️ by @gregosei

“big mama” is a song on my new album that’s very close to my heart. It’s inspired by my experience at the funeral of a matriarch I loved who’d passed away. It feels fitting to think about what this song means to me on Mother’s Day.

I’d never gone to the wake of a person I’d actually known in life before and had no idea what to expect. When I looked at her body, it was like I was looking at a completely different person. And yet, as we began to celebrate her life and remember who she was in our lives, I felt her presence so strongly that I was brought to tears. She was everywhere. Though I’d always believed in the existence of the soul, that experience proved it to me.

I could feel Big Mama’s presence as I wrote and sang this song. And I still feel her presence when I listen.

I included the spiritual “Walk With Me, Lord” in my celebration of Big Mama’s life not only because it was her favorite song and I sang it at her funeral but also because my experience with her showed me that she and all of my ancestors walk with me 🖤

That experience taught me that the words of another song on my album, “love alive” really are true: “the love lives on…when the body’s gone.”

I wanted to create a complete body of work with my album project. The artists that have most inspired me, artists like Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Beyoncé, Calle 13, Janelle Monae, Frank Ocean, Erykah Badu, Rosalía, and on and on, did just that, so I sought to do that in my own art. The little details of this project from the track listing and lyrics to the production and visuals, were all intended to inform that body of work.

So I hope y’all will explore and be curious and sit with those details as you take it all in. I hope y’all have fun with this project.

I hope y’all connect with the music, that it gets you moving, and that it helps you connect with yourselves and others in beautiful ways.

Most of all, I hope y’all are inspired to move with radical love and to transform this world into one y’all would rather live in. by @gregosei

After 4 years working on this album, there’s a lot I could say. For now though, I just want to express gratitude.

I’m grateful to have made it to this day because there were many moments when I doubted that I would. I’m grateful for the process and all that I learned from it.

I want to express special thanks to @warren_trunz. As the mixing engineer for the album, you really took each of my productions to new heights. On top of that, you were an incredible mentor to me as a new producer, answering my questions, calming my anxieties, and showing me how I could improve with each mix that you did. My growth as a music producer over the course of making this album is directly related to my incredible collaboration with you.

Shout out to @sightsoundsentence for helping me to bring my visual ideas to life with your abundant talent. It has truly been a pleasure to work with you. Thank you.

Thanks to Reny Díaz, who, as always, was one of my biggest cheerleaders, a trusted advisor, and a sounding board throughout this process.

Thank you to my accountability partner, fellow artist @whoiskrystal. Our weekly meetings have been so grounding for me, and you’ve been such a deep source of wisdom.

Thanks @danieltaytro for helping me during so many stages of this process AND inspiring me to make an album by making your own.

Thanks to my early listeners for giving me feedback on the tracks while they were still being cooked up, and a special shout out to @dtruth17, who listened to every single track.

Thanks to @billieeilish and @finneas (who also hugely inspired a lot of my production choices) whose example reminded me that there’s no time like the present to make your art and you don’t need anyone’s permission to make it on your terms.

Thanks to @chrisgehringer for mastering the album, all of the photographers that worked on the project, the family and friends that have encouraged me, all the artists that inspired me, and all of y’all for listening!
