It would have been easy to quit. 5 months without a deal. Countless instances of daily rejection. Knocking on doors with the anticipation of being told to “f**k off” and have the door slammed in my face. Ghosting from “interested clients.” And unanticipated criticism online from strangers (and some acquaintances) who have an issue with people who have the guts to put themselves out there no matter how difficult it is to do.

Here’s where the story gets good. The Getty Group is where I chose to work because Shawn was clear and honest about expectations here in our original meeting. He described a workplace where hard work, support, education and accountability were cornerstones of the culture that has been created here. They aren’t encouraged, they’re expected. Every day I look forward to coming to the office because it is filled with people who thrive on those expectations and enjoy seeing others succeed as a result of that culture.

Last week saw a huge high after months of hard work. An accepted offer, a possession, and seeing a pretty cool update to a trophy that sits at our the entrance that rewards prospecting numbers. 3,539 phone calls, 3,538 texts, 4,040 emails (actual tracked data) and a few deals later, I get to see my name on that trophy underneath the name of one of the top real estate teams in the entire country every morning. Luck: A talented tattoo artist was referred to you while you were at a low and asked what you hoped to do. You open up about your goals and he refers you to the owner of one of the top teams in the country.

Chance: You meet somebody while working and have the same conversation that you’ve had every day for a few decades. You gel and then lose touch. Then you randomly see him on an Instagram story for of said owner of that team.

Thankful: You follow through on finishing getting your licence. You struggle your way through your first year while still pouring beers. You’re always tired. You constantly think about quitting. And you don’t because you have the support of the people who gave you a chance and are fortunate enough to work alongside many other people who want to see you win.

Tonight a few of those people came to be there as I poured my last beer. And then we celebrated.

Proud: I got into real estate because I want to help people. Somehow I managed to align with people who want the same thing and now I have more time to do it.
