GAS Texas 2025 pt. 1. the Black Femme Collective Demo

i'm still at a loss for words after this entire experience. i'm beyond grateful to have had the opportunity to not only work alongside such incredible glass artists, but to open the entire GAS conference with my team, while being so deeply welcomed and embraced by the community.

thank you @glassartsociety for giving us the space to showcase and celebrate the diversity within the glass world. as a group of non-binary and femme black glass artists, supported by an incredible team of POC on the floor, we were able to show that this space is for us too. i hope others like us see this and know that they belong here, and that their artistic goals are not only valid, but absolutely achievable.

huge thanks to @utaglass for welcoming us with open arms and providing both your glass and metals facilities. thank you for allowing us to experiment and bring this project to life. and big love to @oceansidecompatible for sponsoring the glass color for our piece, we’re officially fans for life, and i highly recommend other artists give their colors a try!

to my amazing team @adayamonthayear, @h_ashtagg, and @spiderdaartonist this was our first group project and our first time working together in the same space. we did something incredible. we crushed that opening performance and i’m so proud of us. i'm honored to be part of this crew.

a special thank you to @phoenixartshit for stepping in as my #1 assistant that night, you held it down and i couldn’t have done it without you.(hot pot’s on me next time). i hope we can continue to work together in our futures.

Here's to my first solo exhibition "Extraction" and "Collections" featured in Vestibule 102 infront of the Chrysler Museum of Art Perry Glass Studio . On Display from February 5, 2024 - March 3, 2024. Fun fact I installed this on my one year anniversary as the Glass Studio Program Coordinator. Please come check it out if you're in the area. Extraction, 2024

Flame worked borosilicate glass, fear, heartbreak, impostor syndrome, tears, nightmares, dental tools, procrastination, insecurities, disappointment, crippling anxiety, doubt, depression, denial, lots of tarot reading, low self-esteem, lack of control, healing.

Emerging from the depths of my own nightmares surfaced the concept of "Extraction," a visceral manifestation of the fear of tooth loss, serving as a symbolic representation of relinquishing control. This creation unfolded during a chapter in my life when I grappled with a profound sense of losing command over every aspect, ultimately feeling the dissolution of sovereignty over my own identity. In a world saturated with aesthetically pleasing creations, I felt a yearning to delve into the raw and disconcerting.

My first major collaboration with the wonderful @phoenixjuls!, a glass birdhouse titled "Enchanted Forest". It's now on display at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens inside their very own Enchanted Forest for their Beakitecture show! We are one of 60+ featured birdhouses! On display from June 3 - September 30. This is by far the biggest and HEAVIEST pieces I have made! taken in Norfolk Botanical Garden by @gremlynnarts

I’ve been keeping a secret 🤐… but the cat’s finally out of the bag!

This month I’ll be at @alfreduniversity as their Artist in Residence as part of their Black Glass Artist Series. I’m beyond excited and deeply grateful for this opportunity. This will be my first residency, and I truly never imagined I’d get to experience something like this.

As a black, nonbinary, Caribbean immigrant, opportunities like this mean the world to me. I’m incredibly thankful to be given the space to explore, experiment, and grow. I’ll be trying out new ideas and processes while I’m there, so I’m excited to see where it all leads.
Feeling grateful, excited, and ready to dive in. ✨

my friend @infiniteentropy took some amazing shots from my glass after dark back in September with @phoenixjuls and our amazing team.

Still feeling so full after this experience. 🥹

This was my second largest public performance as a featuring artist and it meant so much more than just the work itself, it was a reminder of how powerful community and support can be. I couldn’t have done this without my incredible team who helped make it all happen, each of you had a hand in it and I felt that love through every moment.

To my friends and family who showed up, those cheering from afar, and everyone in our little growing family, thank you for holding me, believing in me, and reminding me why I love this craft and this place so much. The warmth, care, and connection in this area and among our ever growing community is really something special.

Coming back to blowing glass after a long break, and doing it in front of a large group of people again, honestly felt terrifying, but being surrounded by such genuine support turned it into something beautiful. I’m proud of all of us. I feel the growth, the love, and the magic that comes from doing this together.

Coastal Virginia Craft Invitational at Suffolk Art Gallery.

So grateful and humbled to be included in this exhibition alongside ten incredible artists in our area working in glass, clay, fibers, wood and metal. Thank you @jennmarrrieee and the advisory team for selecting my work and giving me space to express my raw, visceral self. This is the second time this piece has ever been installed similarly to its original form, and I didn’t think I’d be given a similar space to show it again. It’s a quiet reminder of how much growth can happen between then and now.

I’m also extremely grateful to @deepblack.shop for inviting me to create a piece for his stunning installation. From the day we met, he’s been a huge inspiration, always loving, embracing, supporting, and guiding me through my growth as both an artist and a person. It’s such an honor not only to contribute to his work, but to be part of this incredible group exhibition alongside him and so many other talented makers.

I never imagined I’d be invited to participate in something like this. To share a space filled with so much talent, love, support and creative energy, both familiar and new, was truly special. I can't wait to continue building these bonds in this community and leave my mark alongside these talented human beings.

I have gotten progressively worse at posting on social media, but I am going to try to do a bunch of random update posts soon.
