على هذه الأرض ما يستحق الحياة

To exist is to resist — and in every child of Palestine, resistance is born not out of hate, but out of history, hope, and the unyielding will to live free.

Creativity takes many forms, and Geekend is a great reflection of that.

Bringing together artists, gamers, storytellers and creators, it creates a space for people to explore their interests, share their work, and connect through the ideas they care about.

Pleased to see Qatar’s creative community continue to grow in its own distinct and unexpected ways. Wishing everyone an enjoyable Geekend.⁩⁩⁩ taken in Lusail Commercial Boulevard by @grendizer

Geekdom started in 2013, built around a belief in Qatar’s talent and the potential of its creative economy. Over the years, gaming became an increasingly important part of that vision.

Since 2019, we have worked to create more space for local game developers to showcase their work, experiment, learn, collaborate and connect with opportunities that could take their ideas further. Through gameathons, workshops, showcases, community events and countless conversations, we’ve tried to build bridges between local talent and the opportunities they deserved a shot at.

Today, being at gamescom and seeing six Qatar-based gaming companies representing that growing ecosystem is incredibly special. There is something different about witnessing years of ambition, experimentation and hard work finally take their place on a truly global stage.

To the leadership, partners and friends who supported Geekdom from its earliest days, and to everyone who has joined us along the way, thank you for believing in what this community could become.

This is more than six companies at gamescom. It is a glimpse of what can happen when you believe in local talent, give people a platform, and keep opening doors.

Our installation for the Venice Biennale “Whispers from United Geekdom” is packed and shipped. Two month past deadline. The mantra from “Shakespeare in Love” has guided this project through lockdowns, war logistics and every curveball thrown at us “It’s going to happen! How? I don’t know. It’s a mystery” a huge thanks to everyone in the team. taken in VCUQ by @grendizer

This week we’ve been shooting interviews with individuals from the Qatari geek community for our upcoming installation at the Venice Art Biennale, “Whispers from United Geekdom”.. Our team, composed of individuals from VCUalumni, DFI, Qatar Museums, and Anthro-tech, has met up with cosplayers, board gamers, musicians, collectors, e-gamers, filmmakers… A group diverse in age, ethnicity, gender, and occupation, from students and young professionals to diplomats and corporate leaders. Generosity, passion, belonging, and openness: a true community of differences. Thanks @k.a.r.m.i.n.a for the images. taken in Vcuarts Qatar by @grendizer
