We chose the name 「共同」　“Kyoudou” for the center because it carries the meanings: community cooperation and collaboration. (Pictured on the tool barn mural).
We are a grassroots volunteer group and volunteers help our garden grow.

For those that missed it - behold our entrance gate!
Thank you to all who attended and helped build this beautiful threshold. Let’s keep nice care of our gate so it will last 💪

Styled after the iconic 門 "Mon" gates in Japan, garden gates serve an important distinction from one atmosphere to another, we hope all visitors feel the sense of serenity and community when passing through Tsuru Island.

Garden Gate incoming!

Check out the drawings for the new roofed entrance gate to Tsuru Island. Join in to make these 2D plans a 3D reality during our upcoming workshop. We couldn’t be more excited to see this welcoming piece of our renovation come to be.

This September, master carpenter Jay Van Arsdale will lead a hands-on workshop to build the gate using traditional Japanese carpentry techniques and hand tools. Two options to join in after the Friday night overview session:

- 2-day workshop: September 19–20

- 5-day workshop: September 19–23

Learn traditional joinery, layout, geometry, scribing and precision planing during the two day workshop or join us for the full experience and help from start to finish.

Recommended for intermediate to advanced carpenters.

Registration is open. Link in bio. taken in Gresham Japanese Garden by @greshamjapanesegarden
