2 years ago my family faced the most difficult and life changing news. We found out that my sister had a brain tumor and it needed to be removed. This surgery was very scary and risky but thanks to her amazing team of doctors it was successful. Although the tumor was successfully removed Annie still had a long road of recovery ahead. The surgery left her with no hearing in her right ear and she had to relearn how to swallow. Annie also had many other complications including pneumonia, a feeding tube, blood clots,and increased spinal fluid that required a shunt. On November 3rd the labs came back that the tumor was cancerous because of a rare disorder called CMMRD (only a few hundred cases worldwide). This news was devastating but we weren’t ready to give up. She underwent several rounds of radiation but thanks to immunotherapy through clinical trial with Sick Kids Toronto her condition improved. As she continues getting frequent scans and infusions her most recent results were clear of cancer and tumor DNA!! During this difficult time we were overwhelmed with love and showered with food and gifts. My family and I will forever be grateful for this community.🩷

During this tough time we attended a UWRF basketball game were Annie used to play. We visited the locker room to see her teammates and a quote on the white board really resonated with us. “You don’t have to, you GET to:)” The biggest lesson I’ve learned from all of this is to not take anything for granted and to live in the moment because you GET to do this!

I am extremely grateful for the medical research that led to the immunotherapy that has helped Annie stay healthy. I highly encourage you to donate and vote to help support the funding of medical research of all kinds because it truly saves lives.

Annie, I love you more than words can describe, you’re the kindness, most wholesome person in the world. You are the best sister I could ever ask for and my best friend:) You kicked cancers butt and continue to be the strongest person I know. I’m excited to share that I have been given the opportunity to be a part of division one cheer and further my education at the University of South Dakota. Thank you @usdcheerteam for welcoming me to the team. I look forward to pursuing a major in Elementary Education. A huge thank you to my coaches, teachers, friends, and family for helping me get to where I am today. I couldn’t have done it without you. I can’t wait to cheer on the Yotes!! ❤️

Thank you Andover cheer 📣🐾
This is one of the hardest goodbyes. This program and team means so much to me. I am beyond grateful for every friendship, every challenge, and every opportunity that cheer has given to me. I am thankful for my coaches for pushing me every day to be better but also making practice so much fun. I’m thankful for ALL the parents that supported us at every event with their sparkly gold jackets and cowbells. I have made so many friendships through cheer that will last a lifetime. My teammates never fail to make me laugh and they make every practice so much fun. I am especially thankful for my Mom for being my coach and my biggest role model. She is the one who put me in the sport and is always the loudest person cheering me on. She always has a positive attitude and a smile on her face. I am so proud of how far this program has come and I am excited to watch the legacy grow. I know that I have left a mark on Andover Cheer, but it has left an even bigger mark on my life on and off the mat.
