Summer Leaves, Autumn Falls: Silent Short Film

Feat: Gretchen Jessup, Kaleb Purswell

I wanted to share this short film project that I wrote and filmed this past fall semester. I created this piece to process a number of experiences including the dread I was feeling anticipating the loss of the home and community I've made over the last 4 years. Grief is a thing that shows up in all our lives in the most unexpected times. It can make us act in ways we are not proud of. One take on grieving that I've read is that it's "a process we learn in order to navigate an unfamiliar world." Life will be different, it will feel different, it will bring different challenges. However, it comforts me to think that the things we lose teach us exactly what we choose to carry with us into the next "unfamiliar world."
If you are someone who is experiencing loss right now, no matter how big, small, or intangible give yourself the time and attention you need to become familiar with the change.

Sky's Limit has felt like the first of many goodbyes I will have as I'm preparing to leave Slippery Rock. Over the last 4 years, Kaleb Purswell has been my number one favorite collaborator and closest friend. We have gotten to work together on 9 student led projects, 4 mainstage productions, and one (slightly horrifying) community theater show. And as we're approaching graduation, I can say I will truly miss the theater we have gotten to make in our time here together.

Thank you to Kaleb, for giving me the grace to grow alongside you. For pushing to make every crazy idea come to life. For teaching me to put my trust into my fellow artists enough to ask for something big. For being brave enough to try things you've never done before. I hope that by working together, I have become a little bit more like you.

Skys Limit has been not only a tribute to kaleb's immense growth as an artist and a person but also his impact on his community. Kaleb has a way of being open and inviting in a way that makes everyone around them want to be the same.
When Kaleb first told me about this idea, I could tell how much it meant to him to provide a space for other queer students to create something that finally speaks to their experiences. and It has been an immense privilege to work with this team of artists who bring themselves to their work, just as much as Kaleb does. To Rissa, Evan, Ricky, Gabe and Ryan; thank you for leaving me with some of the most joyful memories of this semester! Zine and Be Heard: A Workshop for Creatives
🎨📖 Zine Workshop with Gretchen – Open to All Majors! 📖🎨
What’s a zine? It’s a self-published, self-constructed magazine used for creative expression, storytelling, and sharing new ideas!
Join APO for a hands-on Zine Workshop, where we’ll explore the history, construction, and impact of zines before diving into an hour of creation. We’ll also discuss the importance of dialogue within your artistic community and how to carve out space for your unique voice.
🖍 Some supplies provided, but feel free to bring extra art materials or a laptop if you want to go digital!
We will be running this workshop twice so you can choose which works best with your busy schedule
