A peek at another one of the DIY upgrades we did in our new (old) home on a shoestring budget. We are both thrilled with how it turned out. With a little paint and an upgrade around the fireplace, we brightened and modernized the living room to create more of a focal point for this comfy area of the house. Here’s everything we did: Andrea 👉 SPRAY PAINTED the brass strip on the gas fireplace matte black and carefully REMOVED THE WHITE DECAL on the mantel. Denis 👉 REPLACED THE OLD LIGHTING sconces with new sleek brass ones. Andrea 👉 PAINTED the yellow walls a creamy white. Denis 👉 ADDED MOULDING to the wall above the narrow mantel (painting it to match) to add impact and create more of a focal point in the space. All in all, this entire living room upgrade cost us: $250 Worth it!! by @greyarrowfarm
Another big milestone happening over here with kiddo number two heading off to university… So proud and excited for you Asher— and feeling all the big feelings as we wave goodbye. Thought it might be a little easier the second time around, but it hits just as big. You are one cool guy, and we know you’re going to thrive. It’s just a little quieter now back at home, and that’s sure going to take some getting used to. We love you so much son. Hugs to all our fellow parents also walking through this crazy new season of life this week. 🫶 by @greyarrowfarm
Summer is not over just yet! Even though we are getting our back-to-school stuff ready over here, we still have time for another summer supper. (That sunshine out there has been amazing this week!) Here’s a classic from the blog with a delightful herbaceous twist… Kohlrabi + Potato Salad with Garden Herb Pesto Ingredients: 1-2 kohlrabi 1 lb potatoes 3 cups fresh herbs, chopped (I used basil, Italian parsley and oregano) 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil 1/2 cup parmesan cheese, grated 1/2 tsp kosher salt 1/4 tsp red chili flakes 5 cloves garlic, peeled and gently smashed 1 cup corn Salt and pepper, to taste Instructions Prepare the kohlrabi by cutting off the leaves, peeling well, and cutting into 1-inch cubes. If potatoes are babies, you can leave them whole, but if they are larger, you can peel and cut them into 1-inch cubes as well.
Add potatoes and kohlrabi to a large pot and fill the pot with water until veggies are covered. Bring to a boil over high heat. Simmer for 10 minutes, or until the potatoes and kohlrabi are fork-tender. Drain and set aside to cool.
Using a blender or food processor, puree washed herbs with garlic, parmesan, salt and chili flakes. Slowly stream oil into the mixture, until thick and smooth. If the pesto seems too thick, add water a teaspoon at a time until you reach the desired consistency.
Spread 1/2 cup of the pesto to the bottom of a large bowl. Add potatoes, kohlrabi and corn. Toss to coat.
Season with salt and pepper to taste. Garnish with chopped, fresh herbs.
// 📸 Big shoutout to Erin Walker of @alittlesaltblog for crafting this delish recipe and pics. Thanks Erin! by @greyarrowfarm
These kids just keep getting bigger— so we are grabbing all the summertime fun we still can with them all! That means: 🗺️ travel 🍦ice creams 🌊 oceanside 🐟 fish and chips ⛰️ hiking, swimming, cliff jumping 🚙 road tripping ☀️sunshine 👫friends ⛳️sports 🌮 and lots of good food… How cool that we live in a day and age where we get to snap memories of it all to look back on. Miss you all already. We love you West Coast! by @greyarrowfarm
So the question I am asked most these days is “What am I doing now that I’ve moved on from farming?” (@greyarrowfarm) Well… here’s the scoop👇 For a while now, I’ve been developing my savvy in real estate investing, buying up smart properties and turning them into cash-flowing assets. On the side of teaching high school, this is how I now spend my time, money, and expertise. I super enjoy it, have gained a ton of knowledge and experience, and am building greater wealth and stability for my retirement and my family’s future. It’s pretty sweet! You know me; I’m a low-key guy who works diligently, with purpose, integrity and strategy. I like to see good things for all people. I’m now offering to help friends buy YOUR own smart, cash-flowing properties (without having to manage tenants or become a landlord)— to build your own passive wealth through real estate. If you’re interested or even just curious, 👉 Send me a message. No cost involved. We’ll look at your options, talk through questions, run some numbers, and go from there. This has been an exciting journey for me so far, and it’s equally exciting for me to now help some of you build your own passive wealth through real estate. Give me a shout. (Follow along @dforstbauer as I start actually sharing my journey in this) by @greyarrowfarm
Our move off of the farm has allowed for the most beautiful pause from social media for me. I’ve been able to step back and engage in other facets of my life and family without having to think much at all about output or sharing for a while. It’s been downright heavenly ✨ Like a peaceful reset. And I’m not in any rush to get back to my old normal just yet. I’ll share little updates here and there (mainly over at @andreakristinwild as I dive deeper into my art practice) but for the immediate time being, just know that we are all happily breathing and enjoying the new place and this new pace of life post-farm. 🫶 Happy Spring everyone! by @greyarrowfarm
A few snaps in our new place, and how badly I’m longing to get painting again… 📸 The new art studio. I’m absolutely in love with it and can’t wait to paint walls and organize. It’s just off the kitchen with lovely hardwood floors, built-in shelving, and a big beautiful windows. Currently stalled on this room while Denis works on making cabinet doors for all those shelves so I can tuck away my art supplies. 📸 My current project: a mural in the front entry. I decided on adding it to give some life and visual interest to this small space, and make it feel a little larger, while satisfying my craving to get back at it with my brushes. We’ll see how it turns out. Happy New Year everyone! 🎉 I hope you had a nice break from all the regular. Here’s to a new year full of new things. May it be awesome. by @greyarrowfarm
Final CSA bins went out yesterday to members. It always feels like a big accomplishment to wrap up the end of another fantastic season— but THIS time we wrapped up the entire farm along with it. 🥹 We are feeling all the feels over here… celebration, sadness, tired, joy, sentimental, reminiscent, ready. Thank you again to all of our members for signing up and taking part in our CSA— and also to our location partners for being such awesome, community-oriented businesses! We really value you. 👇 @fika.coffee.camrose @square1coffee @the.r.a.k.shpk Happy winter everyone ❄️🩵 by @greyarrowfarm
