This special little guy passed away on September 29, 2025 after 16 years in the Holdway family. Here he is in his native England as a kitten in the first apartment @thomasthomasnicholson and I shared together. I had the pleasure of naming him Dante. I had no idea he would turn out to be such a hellraiser. Decapitating chipmunks was a favourite pastime of his. But every night he would crawl into the arms of a lucky bedfellow like the perfect boyfriend. All was forgiven. In 2013, Dante disappeared. My parents were certain he was dead. My dad cried at work. But my sister @enigmagirlfromanotherplane and I rallied the troops (my parents), forcing them to post missing posters all over our hometown with the promise of reward, if returned. Dante sprinted home five days later. To this day, we’re pretty sure our neighbours kidnapped him. As the years went on, Dante slowed down but remained beloved. And when @kamran_ahmad73 joined our family, he and Dante formed a special bond. Dante spent his last few years with Julia and Kam. And when they had a baby boy, a lot of people were concerned about them keeping Dante. But Dante surprised all of us. He may have been a selfish lover but he understood that this baby brother was something to cherish and protect and looked out for him until his dying day. I’ll miss you, little fella. Good lad. We've been fostering bonded brothers Milo and Shadow for a good few weeks now, trying to get them adopted with Kitt Crusaders. Unfortunately, there's been no bite yet, sometimes it can be hard to find a forever home for a pair.

Born in the foster system, they're both very good and sweet boys, playful, cute and cuddly and the benefit of having two bonded cats is that when you just don't have time to give them attention, they'll keep each other company.

Our cat Roman passed away very suddenly last week. Roman entered our lives unexpectedly in the spring of 2022. He waltzed into our apartment the day we moved in and declared that he lived there (he always was a big talker). We later learned he had tried his “poor little orphan” routine on just about everyone in our building and we were the first suckers to fall for it.

Adopting Roman was not convenient. In fact, it often prevented us two humans from seeing each other with Thomas being out of town half the year. And Roman did not travel well. Because our neighborhood was his kingdom, a place where he was free to slap insubordinate dogs and garner the affection of our neighbors up and down the street who all seemed to know his name. As a Savannah cat (literally part African wild cat) who had spent four months on the street after being abandoned by his previous owners, Roman insisted on roaming free. After failing to keep him indoors only, we decided to love him on his terms, meeting him where he was, even if that risked cutting his life short in the end.

He was such a special cat. On day three of owning him, our neighbors asked us how long it took us to train our cat to follow us around the block. We didn’t train him. We never could. Roman always did what he wanted. He would sneak past our patio, ducking down to avoid being seen while he beelined for the crappy food our neighbor put out for strays. But his long tail always gave him away. He also loved to roll around in dirty underwear for some reason (but only Gemma’s).

There truly was no training Roman. If anything, he trained us, such as when he consistently told us to come outside to keep a lookout while he did his business.

In the end, Roman taught us to live life authentically, leading by example. And though it breaks our hearts to no longer have him here, we will always remember the joy he carried and how present he made us. He is one of the great loves of our lives.
