Hello, we’re Ella & Sophie, the founders of Griddle Bakery.

We met on Spare Room many years ago: Ella answered an ad for a flatmate, and left with a business partner as well.

We had a ton in common, including a love of running and a love of baking.

A slightly random combination, perhaps, but it turns out it was the beginning of Griddle Bakery.

That love of baking soon turned into a ritual of baking together.

Pancakes, waffles, the lot. Always made with the kind of ingredients you’d expect to find in your kitchen cupboard - lower in sugar, higher in wholegrains, exactly the sort of food that fuelled our runs (and, if we’re honest, justified the second waffle).

But it wasn’t always realistic to bake fresh every day.
Life gets busy. Mornings get chaotic. Sometimes breakfast had to happen while we’re already halfway out the door.

We looked for a convenient baked goods in the shops that worked around our busy, modern lives, we couldn’t find any.

They were either stuffed with preservatives with unpronounceable villainy names, or “fresh”… but then stale within about two days of buying it. (Why is fresh so often stale by the time you get round to eating it?)

Since launching Griddle, we’ve learned just how big this problem is, through our work with City Harvest, redistributing food that would otherwise be binned.

That little insight, which started in our kitchen at home, eventually became Griddle Bakery.

We developed and launched a range of frozen bakery goods - from waffles and French toast to a few upcoming launches we’re VERY excited about - and they’re now in some of the biggest supermarkets across the UK and France.

We’re on a mission to create a new bakery aisle. We just moved it to the freezer, where we believe it belongs.

Frozen is nature’s own preservative. No unpronounceable extras required. Which means the baked goods taste as fresh and honest as anything we ever made at home, ready whenever you actually want them.

Your freezer can become the cupboard you turn to for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or the fourth snack of the day.
As good as the day it was baked. No 5am starts, no flour in your hair for the rest of the day.

No queues, no bookings, and pyjama’s completely acceptable (encouraged even)... If you haven’t already tried our French Toast, this is what we made it for - slow weekend mornings, to relax and enjoy. But while the where-you-can-find-us might be getting bigger, we’re still a founder-led business.
