One of the biggest grifters around that I see so many falling for. Jennifer Welch is selling political rage by the jar. She is one pink pussy hat away from the mess that was the 2017 women’s march on DC A “Homicidal Rage” candle. A “Mother” hoodie and it’s not even from @mother. Apparently, being absolutely f’ing fed up requires a product line.

My new piece is about what happens when a wealthy white woman turns fury into a brand and treats a loyal audience as proof that she is building a movement.

When Graham Platner faced serious allegations from former partners, Welch’s “fuck you” politics suddenly became painfully familiar. For all the rage and profanity, she had excuses ready for a politically useful white man. The status quo got another spokesperson with a podcast.

Welch stays at the center and collects the attention. Her audience is asked to defend her from criticism. The money and access remain with the celebrity. That is how this kind of politics ends up mirroring the systems that created these problems in the first place. But that all becomes irrelevant as long as Jennifer Welch gets to make and keep her millions like the good capitalist that she is.

Welcome to the new season of Grifty Pod: How America Lost Its Mind, and Do We Even Want It Back?

This season, I’m joined by Azi (@thr.wellness.Therapist), Dr. Inna (@_dr_inna), and Julian Walker (@realityandmeaning). We’ve all spent a good deal of our lives trying to understand politics, history, and human behavior, only to watch people enthusiastically repeat some of history’s worst ideas, now with better lighting and a Substack.

Between the four of us, we’ve lived through revolutions, Soviet propaganda, apartheid, and the particular joys of being Black and gay in America. Apparently, we hadn’t suffered enough, so we started a podcast.

Our first episode, “It’s Not a Horseshoe. It’s a Business Model,” gets into horseshoe theory, why the far left and far right sometimes sound suspiciously alike, and how political outrage became such a profitable industry.

All season we are asking THE THREE GRIFTY QUESTIONS:
Who’s making money?
Who’s gaining power?
Who benefits if I stay angry?

They do not explain everything, but they do explain an alarming amount.

Because while half the internet is accusing the other half of being fascists, communists, or a Mossad or CIA operatives, somebody’s making a fortune selling everyone a slightly different version of the same paranoia. And we’d like to know who’s cashing the checks.

Episode 1 is out now!

Listen to Grifty at griftypod.org, on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, or wherever you get your favorite podcasts.

We’ve all seen the “burn it all down” crowd who’ve watched The Hunger Games too many times. They’re picturing themselves in a rebellion outfit and a dramatic speech. Meanwhile, we’re wondering who’s keeping going to keep your neighbors insulin refrigerated, get grandma to dialysis, and stop the guy with a ring light from appointing himself leader because he runs a political meme page.
Side note: could the influencers cashing checks from billionaire Tom Steyer, who apparently couldn’t keep that Christian nationalist cross off his hand, explain their role in the revolution? Because taking his money to attack the Latino candidate running for governor of California, then leaving out the part where he paid you, sounds less like fighting the oligarchy and more like being its social media intern. We’re just trying to follow the revolutionary schedule. Do we overthrow the billionaire class before or after their checks clear?

We seem to have wandered into The Hunger Games: Sponsored Content. Which is probably a good time to remember that revolutions don’t come with a “skip intro” button. We don’t jump straight to utopia. We get chaos, vulnerable people paying first, and some guy insisting HE should be in charge now. Presumably he’ll explain the plan once we like, share, and follow. Personally, I’d like our liberation with a little less influencer marketing.

Welcome to a new season of Grifty Pod: How America Lost Its Mind, and Do We Even Want It Back?
This season I’m joined by my fellow cohosts Aaron McCall (@mrneuropolitan), Inna Kanevsky (@_dr_inna), and Julian Walker (@realityandmeaning).

Between us, we’ve lived through the hate that comes with being Black and gay in America, revolutions, Soviet propaganda, and apartheid in South Africa. Apparently we hadn’t suffered enough, so we started a podcast.

In episode 1, we get into why political extremes sometimes start sounding suspiciously alike and who’s making money keeping us furious.

We’ve got plenty to discuss. You can find Grifty Pod on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube and wherever else you get your favorite podcasts. by @griftypod

Don’t you miss when someone could disagree with you oo something when you agree on 75% of other things and you could both go on with your day. Now you’re a foreign agent, your toothpaste is a murder weapon, and there’s a man with a ring light explaining how he alone can save civilization and why immigrants are the greatest threat to America. I’d like to know when he has time, because he posts a lot.

Grifty’s brand new season, “How America Lost Its Mind, and Do We Even Want It Back?” kicks off tomorrow at 8 AM. We’re asking who’s making money, who’s gaining power, and why so many people claiming to help us keep giving us new people to hate. Which does seem to be going well for their engagement.

Follow the Grifty Pod page and join us for episode one at grifty.org, on Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Bring the friend you text when someone you used to respect starts selling a protocol.

The woman who taught 10 million people how to “heal trauma” allegedly shoved her own co-founder down a flight of stairs.

Nicole LePera, aka The Holistic Psychologist, built one of the biggest mental health brands on social media. A lawsuit filed by her domestic partner and co-founder now alleges psychological abuse, financial exploitation, coercive control, intimidation, and physical violence behind the scenes of the same brand that taught millions how to spot those behaviors in others.

I spent months researching this and it became the deepest dive I’ve ever done into the wellness industrial complex and it goes way beyond Nicole LePera.

Inside:
• The lawsuit and what it alleges
• The MAGA influencer pipeline hiding inside self healing content
• The pseudoscience, plagiarism, NLP-style manipulation tactics, and monetization of people in crisis
Andy Frisella. Sean Whalen. Teal Swan. Aubrey Marcus. Wim Hof. Gabby Bernstein. Bauhauswife. Andrew Huberman. The whole ecosystem.

I really hope conversations like this keep growing because we need stronger oversight, better consumer protections, and mental healthcare that’s actually accessible to regular people instead of only those who can afford thousands out of pocket.

Underneath all of this is a $6.3 trillion industry profiting off people’s pain while real care stays inaccessible.

Andrew Huberman is not just a wellness grifter. He is the most sophisticated one. The Stanford credential. The soft voice. The science-adjacent language that makes supplement endorsements sound like medicine. And now, allegedly, a smear machine targeting the women who spoke up about his sexual abuse I wrote about the psychology of how it works, who it protects, and why it keeps working. by @griftypod

Clavicular had to be carried out by security after overdosing tonight. He’s 20. A “looksmaxxing” manosphere influencer with body dysmorphia and basically a live PSA for mandatory therapy and rehab. Meanwhile Britney Spears got locked into a conservatorship for way less, yet these hype houses run with zero accountability. The double standard is glaring.

During the recent livestream, he appeared to overdose on camera, repeatedly telling viewers he was “so high” while visibly in distress. Someone offered water. Someone else kept pushing an “Addy” (Adderall) on him. The stream cut out, 911 was called, and he was taken to the hospital.

Britney had public breakdowns and lost control of her entire life. This guy overdoses on a livestream and it’s just… content. The manosphere preaches discipline and self-improvement but when one of their own is collapsing on camera, the response is more pills and a live audience.

These platforms reward chaos and monetize dysfunction. The manosphere preys on young men struggling with identity and body image, profits off their insecurity, and calls it self-improvement. Uppers, downers, party mix while encouraging no them to use testosterone, anabolic steroids, and to physically break bones.

If someone is in crisis, call 911. Don’t offer more substances. And parents, check what your kids are watching. The culture they consume is the culture they normalize.

Grifty Pod Bonus Episode “Beating a Dead Horse”

We’re back because the group chat got out of control.

This week we break down the Eric Swalwell allegations, Azi’s firsthand experience as a whistleblower in the Eric Bauman scandal, and the bigger issue of power, patriarchy, and why “believe women” suddenly comes with exceptions.

We also get into cult of personality politics and what happens when the left gets its own Joe Rogan with Hassan Piker.

Messy, honest, and very online but with a real point. Stop worshipping individuals and start holding systems accountable.
