I poured my thoughts and hopes into a booklet for the Eutierria opening. And since only a limited amount was printed. I figured I’d share it here for others to read in the following slides.

The melody I’m humming in the video is one of @madeleine00kate Planting Songs -Nettles, composed by Paulina Miu.

I am so grateful that you trusted me to breathe life into this song with you. ♾️💚♾️

Legendary execution of clay.
Irish Arts Council finalists in Kilkenny, and now I’m standing in front of her incredible solo exhibition, EUTIERRIA, here in Copenhagen at Peach Corner 🇩🇰✨
Seeing her piece, “All Life Is Connected By A Seed,” completely took my breath away. Knowing her journey makes experiencing this in person even more profound. Annelie’s work has this rare, powerful way of making you feel a deep, physical connection to nature, history, and the endless cycles of life through biology.
The installation itself is a beautiful contradiction—she intricately weaves together cold stainless steel, glowing LED lights, and organic, glazed stoneware magnets. As a Sápmi indigenous artist and activist, she bridges the gap between raw materiality and biological life, reminding us that we all stem from the same beginning 🌱
So incredibly proud of how far we’ve both come since our Kilkenny days. If you’re ever in Copenhagen, this is an absolute must-see.

Our Mother
who art in the soil

Biejvve is the Sámi sun deity, mother of all living things, associated with fertility and the return of light. Appearing as both female and male across different accounts, I made mine androgynous, reflecting both this ambiguity and my own.

It is an eerie privilege in being able to make this sculpture of Biejvve today. Sámi gods were turned into devils, drums confiscated and destroyed, and practicing people persecuted. This violence have shaped generations, who were forced to leave their beliefs behind. The seemingly safe distance I now reach across is part of that story. My story. And most likely necessary for this work to have been conceived.

But here I am, reaching across the rupture. Not to recreate a static image of what was, but to let it live and change again. Making Biejvve queer, androgynous and of this time – in an attempt of building other futures to inherit.

I believe rewriting the records created by those who defined history is crucial. To take the language of the religion used to demonise and suppress othered beliefs, and make it carry them again, is a method of decolonisation, an act of resistance – and, quite frankly, a power move.

“The title, Eutierria, is borrowed from Glenn Albrecht’s term for a sense of oneness with the Earth. In the exhibition, this recovered memory alters people’s understanding of their place in the world and enables a different type of society, where value is no longer primarily measured on economic growth but on biodiversity, healthy soil, regeneration and the well-being of different species. Woodlice and other insects become new cultural symbols of wealth and inter-species alliances that remind us of the complex web of life we ourselves are part of. “

Annelie Stokke Grimwade er en queer billedkunstner med svensk-samisk og britisk baggrund, som arbejder med skulptur, performance og poesi. Med afsæt i samiske erkendelsestraditioner bevæger hendes praksis sig mellem materielle eksperimenter og allegorisk historiefortælling. Gennem indsamling og bearbejdning af etisk ladede materialer undersøger hun, hvordan værdi, ansvar og forestillingsevne formes i en tid præget af klimasammenbrud og kolonial ekstraktivisme.

Hendes praksis skaber spekulative artefakter, der fastholder spændingen mellem abstraktion og repræsentation, hvor skønhed og vold forbliver materielt sammenflettede. Ud over at skabe objekter udforsker hun deltagelsesbaserede formater, der åbner rum for fælles refleksion og samskabelse i kølvandet på brud og omvæltninger.

A circle of fire.

In the earliest Greek cosmology, Eros appears as a primordial force of attraction, the impulse through which life begins.

In Lule Sámi tradition, Biejvve/ the sun: is a life-giving power tied to warmth, renewal, and the return of life.

In many Sámi cosmologies the sun is understood as female, while the moon, Máno, is male, a reversal of what is common in many European mythologies.

Different cosmologies.
Different ways of understanding vitality.

Eros names the spark of emergence.
