Another health fair, but make it festive! 🧡 In partnership with Catholic Charities, the Grisham-McLean Institute is hosting the first-ever Vardaman Health Fair next Saturday, November 7, from 10 AM to 1 PM. A few of our health and wellness partners will be set up right in the heart of the Sweet Potato Festival at the Catholic Charities Family Life Center in Vardaman, MS. While you're enjoying the festival, stop by and grab free hygiene products or take advantage of on-site health screenings (blood pressure, glucose, and A1C). Students and licensed professionals will also be available to answer your questions about local health resources. We hope to see you there! 📍210 North Main Street, Vardaman, MS 38837 by @grishammcleanum

Earlier this week, two new volunteers took the AmeriCorps VISTA Oath of Service and joined the North Mississippi VISTA Project: Meghan Curry and Miriam Price! We’re wishing them all the best as they begin their one-year commitment to fighting poverty across North Mississippi. This was also a full-circle moment for us. During her time as a student at UM, Meghan was a CEED Innovation Scholar. Here’s to all the impactful change she and Miriam will bring to their sites this program year! 🤝🏡 #GrishamMcLean #AmeriCorps #NMVP #NationalService by @grishammcleanum
It was an absolute honor to host our partner, Billye Jean Stroud from the New Albany Main Street Association, at our last CEED meeting! 🤝 Billye Jean guided our Innovation Scholars through the core principles of community development. She also emphasized the importance of collective interests and building trust in rural communities. We appreciate Billye Jean for speaking with our students. Stay tuned for what’s next in our partnership with the City of New Albany! #GrishamMcLean #EconomicDevelopment #CEED #MPartner by @grishammcleanum
Connecting university resources with local communities is at the heart of the work of our M Partner program. Today, in honor of Economic and Community Development Month, we’re proud to highlight some of our place-based partnerships! 🤝🏡 In 2018, we launched the pilot phase of M Partner in collaboration with three innovative Mississippi communities: Charleston, Lexington, and New Albany. Through a series of projects focused on education, economic development, downtown revitalization, cultural preservation, and entrepreneurship, the Grisham-McLean Institute was invited to contribute to transforming the lives of residents in these areas. Since the pilot phase, M Partner has grown into a vital initiative for communities across North Mississippi. This growth shows how important such partnerships are to the future of our state. We are forever grateful to the city leadership, community advocates, and local Main Street associations in Charleston, Lexington, New Albany, and our other Communities of Excellence! Our partnerships continue in these communities. At tomorrow’s CEED meeting, we are honored to be joined by Billye Jean Stroud of the New Albany Main Street Association, who hosted CEED Innovation Scholar Kaylee Lemley for a summer internship. Here’s to many more years of collaboration, innovation, and getting things done for Mississippi! #GrishamMcLean #MPartner #PublicService #CommunityDevelopment by @grishammcleanum

VISTA Spotlight: Deauntaye Jones Building and maintaining community partnerships is vital to the work we do here at the Grisham-McLean Institute, and that is what our current Program Development Specialist VISTA, Deauntaye Jones, has been enjoying most about his service so far. 🤝✅ In his role, Deauntaye focuses on building capacity and enhancing community engagement efforts for the Institute. This involves community outreach, partnership building, volunteer coordination, event planning, and researching local resources and new funding opportunities. He recently had the opportunity to assist with planning and coordinating the 6th Annual LOU Community Health & Resource Fair, where he successfully secured 28 local organizations to participate at the event. We appreciate Deauntaye for all the work he put into this project, and we hope you’ll be around to see it all come together this Saturday from 10 AM - 1 PM at the Oxford Activity Center! #GrishamMcLean #AmeriCorps #NMVP #AmeriCorpsVISTA by @grishammcleanum
