This Kauai Workshop was everything and more. Four days in one of the most beautiful areas in the world, surrounded by some of the best humans I’ve ever met.

Still feeling the high from it all. I don’t even know how to put into words how special this group was. The most genuine, joyful, wildly talented, weird (in the best way), and absolutely hilarious. I haven’t laughed that hard in years. I can’t even begin to share how grateful I am that you all put your trust in me and flew across the world to come to the Kauai workshop.

Kauai, you gave us sunsets, rainbows, gorgeous views, and a whole lot of memories I’ll never forget.

But, none of it would’ve been possible without the models, vendors, permit offices, and sponsors. Putting all of this together is no small task and I could not have done it without their help. Thank you so so much!

• Our Incredible Models: @hawaiiadventurechick @brrookiemcc @maylormadephoto

• HMUA: the lovely @_lululush_

• Florals: the incredibly talented @bloomsbykim

The (what felt like a million) people from the Hawaii Film Commission, DNLR, State Parks, and everything in between. They were so helpful in making sure we were doing everything correctly with permits, coordinating times, and protecting this beautiful island.

• Our Sponsors:
@kamrette - for letting me share the most iconic leather camera backpack in the world. your products are a dream and I’m so grateful for your support

@flodesk - for letting me share your email marketing platform to this group - something that’s such an integral part of my business. such an honor to have you be a part of this.

@narrativeapp - for constantly upleveling the photography workflow and making editing so much more efficient. thank you so much for allowing me to share your program with this group

@lensrentals - such a rockstar company that makes being a photographer so much more accessible. thank you for letting me share your company with the grit crew

@twenty7daisies - you make the most beautiful websites and branding for photographers. it’s such an honor to share your talent with everyone at the workshop

Kauai Workshop 2025, you were a dream. I miss ya already 🌺 by @griteducationco

Social media is a powerful, super beneficial tool for us to market on as business owners. But it’s certainly not easy. It’s a lot to keep up with and we have to always be evolving with the platforms.

Which is why I always recommend all photographers market on two forms of social media AND on Google. Google is by far the most consistent way to get inquiries that you can rely on and it doesn’t require you to work on it everyday. Giving you so much more freedom in your schedule.

I’ll be teaching my in-depth social media marketing and website SEO strategy at the Kauai workshop. Or you can sign up for a one-on-one mentor session call with me and I’ll help you with your individual needs. Info for both options is in my bio 🤍

B-roll is your absolute best friend when it comes to creating content for marketing your photography business on social media.

It allows you to batch a bunch of clips that you can use over and over again to share tips, tidbits about the way your run your business, and provide inspiration for your target audience.

Save this for your next batch day 🤳🏻 by @griteducationco

You probably added these in because you saw a lot of other photographers have them in their contact forms. And you thought, why not?

Well, I’ll tell ya…

• “What’s your budget?”
I know you have no ill intent in asking this. But, that doesn’t mean people won’t make assumptions. And the fact is, many clients will be worried that if they tell you a higher budget then you’ll inflate your pricing to match their budget. If they tell you a lower budget then you might assume they’re not even worth your time to talk to.

And while that second part may seem wild, I’ve had MULTIPLE photographers tell me that if someone gives them a budget that’s below their rates, then they politely let them know they’re out of budget and don’t even pitch their services.

But, what they’re not realizing is that A LOT of clients will adjust their budget for a photographer that they love. If they really click with you, they’ll often make it work.

So by not even giving them your offer, you’re throwing away the chance of working with someone who very well could be the perfect fit for you.

My advice is always this:
Put your starting rate or average cost on your website so they have an idea and let them choose if they want to reach out to you or not. By not asking for their budget, you’re letting them decide AND there’s no chance of them getting the icky feeling that you’re only worried about the money and the way they respond could change what you charge them.

Moving on…

•”How ready are you to book with me?”
Put simply, all clients should get the same exact amazing experience during the booking process with you. Even if they put “I’m ready to book right now!” You should absolutely still give them the courtesy of getting to have a consult with you, hearing more about your process, and getting to ask all of their questions.

Another thing I’ve heard often of that photographers. They’ll get the response that they’re ready to book so they’ll basically just send over a proposal and contract almost immediately.

And if another photographer gave them an amazing consult then you’re going to come off as very impersonal in comparison.

The info can hurt you more than it helps. by @griteducationco

For me a photography business went from being a pipe dream to a life-changing career filled with so many of the best people I’ve ever met in my entire life, a work-life balance, and finally not dreading the beginning of the week.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always said my goal is to leave a positive impact on the world. Just help people find a little more joy out of it all. So it really is the coolest thing in the world that I get to help other people find that same freedom and joy in this industry. by @griteducationco

Anyone else in the trenches of tax prep for their photography business? 🙋🏻‍♀️

I’m right there with ya. So here are a few things I had on my mind today to share about it that could be helpful for you to know.

ONE MORE THING: Sorry I forgot to add this in at the beginning, but wanted to address another common misconception. You absolutely do need to file taxes even if you’re not an LLC. Whether you are an LLC or not, it doesn’t change anything about what you owe for taxes. It doesn’t matter!

And this is why I don’t recommend solely marketing on social media, even IG. Because it can leave at any point. We gotta learn how to get found on google too through SEO. And you will at the Kauai workshop 😋

Two spots left! Grab them before they’re gone! by @griteducationco

Idk if there are any fellow @melrobbins fans here, but follow her advice and LET THEM.

Let them judge.
Let them compare.
Let them talk.

And prove them wrong. Because anyone doing better than you will just be cheering you on. So it says more about them than it does about you. Envy is a horrible thing, but it’s not your problem to worry about. by @griteducationco

The reason why entrepreneurs become successful is because they’re committed to their work. It takes a lot of drive to show up when you don’t have a manager watching over you. But, having that drive can make resting difficult and rest is an integral part of success too. Without it we’ll burn out.

So if you’re like me and you’re struggling with rest this week, this is the message I keep telling myself so I’m saying it to you too. It’s okay with do nothing. You’re allowed. You don’t have to be productive 24/7, 365 days a year. Just rest. by @griteducationco

Wondering what to do with all your free time? I got you 😜

Our slow season is where we finally have time to sit down, get organized, and plan for the future. Take advantage of it! by @griteducationco

There’s only two tickets left for the Kauai Photographer Workshop, happening this spring. And it really would make the perfect gift!

Send this to your spouse to drop a not so subtle hint 😏

We do indeed love SEO 🪩

Growing your photography business becomes so much easier once you stop solely relying on social media for bookings.

That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use it for marketing. You absolutely should. But, you don’t want to put yourself in the position where if IG shuts down you lose everything or if you want to take a social media break, you have a decrease in income.

I’ll always encourage a well-rounded marketing strategy because the reality is, if you don’t want to experience burn out and you want a long lasting business, then it’s a requirement.

Google is one of (if not THE) most reliable inquiry source and it requires so much less effort over time.

I teach my step-by-step process to implementing it into your business in the Become That Photographer Course + Coaching Program. Even if you don’t even have a website yet and this is all new to you, you’ll be able to do this.

And I’m your business coach for 14 weeks to make sure you have it all worked out before handling it on your own.

BTP is the most hands-on business coaching experience I offer and it’s on sale for Black Friday now for the lowest rate it’ll ever be. The sale ends Friday at 5PM and spots are limited!

Check out the link in my bio for more info

or comment BTP below and I’ll DM you all the details 🤍
