POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

We're seriously considering whether The Secret Lantern should remain on Instagram and Meta's platforms.

On October 30, Meta's updated commercial terms take effect, raising concerns about how content from businesses and their websites may be accessed and used, including for AI. And businesses have been left with precious little time to understand the changes, assess the risks, or make other plans.

We're a small, independent bookstore and game store. We don't have a legal department or a marketing team waiting to rebuild our entire online presence. Social media is how many of you find our events, discover our creators, and stay in touch. Leaving could genuinely hurt us.

But staying shouldn't mean surrendering our choices.

After reports about @bookshop_org advertising being copied and turned into AI-generated content, we're worried about our own photos, artwork, and especially the people who trust us to share their images. Our customers, staff, and artists aren't raw material for someone else's algorithm.

Neither are our words or our work. And the data centers behind this technology carry real costs for water, energy, and communities.

We've made our stance on generative AI clear. We've opted out where we can. Yet we're still being pushed toward systems we never meaningfully agreed to.

It's exhausting. And it shouldn't be normal.

We need real conversations about consent, privacy, intellectual property, and accountability. Ask your representatives what protections they're pursuing. Ask candidates where they stand. Support human artists, authors, and independent businesses.

And please, stay connected with us beyond these platforms. Sign up for our newsletter, join our Discord, and check our website for events.

We haven't made a final decision about Meta. But October 30 may force us to roll the dice.

Our creativity is not an invitation. Our presence online is not consent. And our livelihoods should not depend on surrendering either.

Well, well, well. Look who decided to stop by The Secret Lantern.
ㅤ
We don't know about y'all, but when a certain suspiciously handsome wicker gentleman shows up outside your bookstore trying to get your attention, you take that as a sign.
ㅤ
So naturally, WE'RE GOING TO THE MOVIES.
ㅤ
Y'all asked! We answered!
ㅤ
For our very first Secret Lantern Movie Night, we're taking over a theater in Pflugerville for a private screening of WICKER, starring Alexander Skarsgård.
ㅤ
Come for the movie. Stay for the questionable decisions, giggles, popcorn, excellent company, and whatever this guy has planned.
ㅤ
THE DETAILS:
Tuesday, November 10, 2026
6:30 PM | Doors & concessions
7:00 PM | Movie starts (NO TRAILERS!)
Location: Cinemark Theater in Pflugerville, TX
ㅤ
We've got a limited number of seats, and we'd love to fill that theater with our favorite lovelies.
ㅤ
Grab your tickets, bring a friend... and a basket and come watch something weird with us.

Running a book/game store means:

Doing inventory for two days straight, THEN driving to the distributor to politely* ask where the stock we paid for OVER A MONTH AGO is, THEN running to meet with partners, THEN jumping into a meeting about a new POS system, THEN racing back to the store to receive THIRTY BOXES, realizing we now need to rearrange half the shelves, and THEN putting through preorders and special orders.

What a ride. 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

At least I have 90s hip hop and R&B keeping me sane through all of it.

Huge shoutout to the @chambercedarpark aka Cedar Park Chamber of Commerce for putting on an absolutely incredible 53rd Annual Gala and @the6amer6oddess for being my lovely date~

This year’s FIESTA was such a beautiful celebration of the people, businesses, and organizations that make Cedar Park such a special community. The room was full of color, joy, great conversations, and so many familiar faces.

I was especially proud to be there repping The Secret Lantern Books & Games @thesecretlanternsocial and celebrating alongside so many of the local businesses and community leaders who make @visitcptx what it is. It still feels pretty wild that we get to be part of this community and build something here alongside all of you.

A huge thank you to the entire Cedar Park Chamber team and everyone behind the scenes who made the evening happen. Y’all absolutely knocked it out of the park.

What a night. ❤️

My favorite part of traveling is finding treasures so imagine my delight when I stumbled into @44thand3rdbookseller in the Atlanta airport. The ladies there were wonderful and I was able to get some inspiration for our shelves at @thesecretlanternsocial.

I wish I could have stayed longer and I'll definitely swing by again on my way home. What an absolute treasure.
