Tucked into the evolving streetscape of Grand Rapids’ West Side, One Bourbon feels at once familiar and entirely unexpected—a place where whiskey reigns supreme, and every plate arriving from the kitchen seems purpose-built to match it. On a recent evening, I shared a table with my cousin George, a longtime foodie friend and the one I turn to for occasions like this. Our meal began with a vanilla-orange infused Old Fashioned, a cocktail so popular that Meagan Freriks, co-owner and heart of the operation, tells me they keep it on tap. “It’s one of those drinks that everyone seems to love,” she said in our interview, and it was easy to understand why: smooth, balanced, comforting, with just the right whisper of citrus.⁠ ⁠ The food at One Bourbon mirrors the precision of the drinks program. Grand Rapids Burger Week, happening July 27–August 2, 2026, is a citywide celebration of creative burgers, local restaurants, and the people who make Grand Rapids’ food scene so distinctive. Throughout the week, participating restaurants will offer special burgers priced from $7 to $10, giving diners the chance to try inventive creations, discover new favorites, and support local businesses.⁠ ⁠ The official Burger Week app makes it easy to plan the experience. Diners can browse participating restaurants, view each location’s featured burger, check hours, explore an interactive map, and see whether specials are available for dine-in or carry-out. Growing up in West Michigan, it’s hard to imagine a summer without water. Some of my favorite warm-weather memories involve drifting down a river with friends, spending long afternoons at state park beaches, or puttering around the lake on a pontoon at my family’s cottage.⁠ ⁠ In a place known as the “Great Lakes State,” water is never far away.
