This is one of the hardest posts I've ever written but we had to say goodbye to our beloved Jam on March 18. The house is quieter, our hearts are heavier, and it still feels unreal that he is not here anymore, but we are so grateful for the almost 12 years of pure joy and love he brought us. Thank you Jam, for your kindness, for your joy, and for teaching your mom and dad what it truly means to love. You'll be met by so many angel friends, no longer in any pain or suffering, and be able to run fast and fly and eat whatever you like. ❤️🌈🐾🐾ジャムが虹の橋を渡りました。昨年7月頃から体力が落ちてハイキングに行けなくなり、今年になり食欲減退して体重も減りましたが、最近まで毎日近所の散歩に出かけていました。しかし3月18日午後から動けなくなり、その夜パパの腕の中で深い眠りにつきました。ジャムとの毎日は心底楽しく温かい時間でした。ジャム、虹の橋の向こうで、思う存分走って泳いで食べて、元気でママとパパを待っててね❤️#flatcoatedretriever #retrieversofinstagram by @groovinjam

Sorry everyone, I've been slacking off on posts for a while. I was worried my life wouldn't last until autumn, but I'm doing reasonably well. I take a short walk around the neighborhood every day. My appetite is good. The vet said I had multiple liver tumors, but I'm sure that was a misdiagnosis. My liver function is improving. Also, back in May, I nearly died from adrenal failure because the trilostane dosage for my Cushing's syndrome was too high. So now, I'm on a lower trilostane dose. Because of that, the Cushing's symptoms aren't fully under control yet, and my fur has thinned out, making me look old. But I don't mind. While not exactly active, I'm enjoying each day at my own relaxed pace.しばらく投稿していなくてすいません。老いはしましたが、体調はまずまずです。肝機能は改善傾向ですし、クッシング症候群に対して飲んでいたトリロスタンの服用量を減らしているので副腎不全の徴候もありません（むしろクッシング症候群のコントロールが甘いため毛が薄くなりました）。散歩は家の周りだけなので、お友達のみんなには会えなくて直接近況を報告できなくてごめんなさい。毎日ジャムのペースでのんびりすごしています（寝ている時間がやたらに長いです）。#flatcoatedretriever #retrieveroftheday #retrieversofinstagram by @groovinjam

My dear friends, I'm sorry for worrying you. In early August I was feeling exhausted. I had a poor appetite and could not stand up on my own. My family was worried that if the liver tumor was progressing and causing these symptoms, I might not live until September. However, my symptoms have improved since mid-August, even though I have not received any drastic treatment. I now have a good appetite, get up on my own and go for walks around the neighborhood three times a day! It doesn't add up because I have no idea why my health recovered, but I'm relieved anyway. I sincerely appreciate all the concern and support you've shown me ❤️心配かけてごめんなさい。８月に入った頃、ジャムはぐったりしていて、補助しないと立ち上がることができず、立ち上がっても足元がおぼつかずふらついていました。食欲もなく食事介助が必要になりました。肝腫瘍に対して抜本的な治療を行っていない以上９月を迎えるのは難しいだろうと覚悟しました。しかしその後どういう訳か全身状態がだんだん回復し、今は食事をペロッと完食するようになり、階段下りて上って近所に散歩に行っています。無事に９月を迎えることができました。皆さんの暖かいコメント、応援に心から感謝です！#flatcoatedretriever #retrieversofinstagram by @groovinjam

I'm deeply grateful to my friends for the warm comments in my previous post ❤️The results of an ultrasound-guided liver biopsy were reported, but no tumor tissue was obtained, so the pathological diagnosis remains unclear. My muscle strength is weakening, making it increasingly difficult to stand up and appetite is also declining. Due to my poor physical condition I'm unable to undergo any further invasive tests or procedures. I just want to spend my remaining days, eating delicious foods and living comfortably. 前の投稿に対しての皆様の心温まるコメントに心から感謝しています❤️超音波ガイド下肝生検の結果が出ましたが腫瘍の場所が深くて腫瘍細胞が採取できておらず多発肝腫瘍の病理診断はできませんでした。しかし最近立ち上がるのも難しくなっており、この体力では侵襲的検査や処置は無理です。美味しいものを食べて安楽な日々を過ごせれば十分だと思っています。#flatcoatedretriever #retrieversofinstagram by @groovinjam

Since a few weeks ago I have been feeling short of breath and spending more time lying down because even a short walk is tiring me out. My hind legs have become weak and it is difficult to run or go up the stairs. The veterinary doctor performed blood tests and ultrasounds and found that I have liver dysfunction and multiple liver tumor. The pathology of liver tumor has not yet been determined but they are most likely malignant tumors or sarcomas. I don't know what kind of treatment is possible but I don't want to have a hard time. Fortunately I have a good appetite and eat a lot of delicious food every day. I wish I could spend more time with my family ❤️３週間くらい前から少し歩いても呼吸数がはやくなって辛そうになるので長い散歩に行けなくなりました。また筋力が急に衰えて走ったり階段を駆け上がったりできなくなりました。単なる老いにしては症状の進行が早すぎるので、また肺炎になったのか？それとも副腎不全にまたなったのか？それとも？などといろいろ心配して、かかりつけ動物病院を受診しました。先週から今週にかけて血液検査や超音波検査などしてもらい肝機能障害と多発肝腫瘍が見つかりました。肝腫瘍が原発なのか転移なのか、どのようなタイプの腫瘍なのかはまだわかりませんが、全身状態の弱り方が早いので体に負担のかかることはもうできないでしょう。幸い本人は食欲旺盛です。美味いものを毎日たくさん食べてます。#flatcoatedretriever #retrieversofinstagram by @groovinjam

On May 21 I suddenly lost mobility and became lethargic. My breathing was rapid and I became incontinent. Mommy and Daddy rushed me to the Emergency Vet. I was immediately placed in an oxygen chamber, and blood tests, x-rays, and ultrasounds were performed. I was diagnosed with pneumonia. I have Cushing's syndrome and am on Trilostane. Therefore, the cortisol that should be produced in relation to an increased demand during periods of severe stress, such as pneumonia, was not being secreted adequately, and it was possible that I had adrenal insufficiency. I was treated with IV fluids, antimicrobials, and steroids, and the trilostane was discontinued. My condition rapidly improved and I am now home. Signs of an infection on my blood tests and x-ray findings also improved, and I was able to discontinue the antimicrobials today. Thank you friends for your love and concern!先週水曜日の早朝、意識朦朧で動けなくなっているのを発見しました。火曜日夜まで普通でしたのでパパもママもまったく予想外の出来事で、血の気が引きました。緊急で診てくれる病院をさがして急いで連れていき、台車に乗せて診察室に運び、酸素室直行。血液検査、レントゲン検査、超音波検査などしてもらい、肺炎が疑われて、点滴、抗菌薬に加えてステロイド投与することになり、そのまま入院しました。この時点では、最悪の事態も覚悟しました。その日の夜面会に行くと、診察室からなんと歩いて出てきました。ステロイドが著効したと思われました。退院して自宅近くの病院に移り、そこでも種々の検査をしました。血液検査の炎症反応の推移などから診断は肺炎で間違いないが、急激な状態悪化→ステロイド投与による急激な改善、という経過には副腎不全が関与している可能性が高い、と判断されました（既往症のクッシング症候群に対してトリロスタンという薬をふだん内服してコルチゾール分泌をおさえているため、肺炎罹患して本来コルチゾール分泌が亢進すべきなのにそうならなかった）。自宅で抗菌薬服薬しトリロスタン中止して本日まで経過をみてましたが、経過は順調で、本日の検査でレントゲン上も血液検査上も改善が確認されたので、抗菌薬服薬も不要となりました。シニアになるといろいろありますね。みなさま、ご心配かけました。#retrieversofinstagram #flatcoatedretriever by @groovinjam

This is me at the Vet's. After tearing my left anterior cruciate ligament two years ago and having recovered very well, I now had the misfortune to tear partly the other side...I have to be careful and walk on leash only in the neighborhood...but with lots of love and rest the next several weeks I hope it won't get worse...send your prayers to me...❤️🤞急に右後脚に跛行がみられました。２日ほどで改善して今は普通に歩いているのですが、２年前に左後脚の前十字靭帯を断裂した時と症状が似ていてとても心配で、今日TPLOをして頂いた病院を受診しました。やはり対側の前十字靭帯を部分断裂している可能性が高いということでした。ただし年齢と既往歴から手術のリスクも低くはなく、また今現在は症状もあまりないので、しばらく様子をみようと思います。どうか悪化しませんように❤️🤞#retrieversofinstagram #flatcoatedretriever #tornacl #feelingsorryformyself #roughday by @groovinjam
