Staying true to yourself in dance even when you are asked to fit in💜

Dance often begins as a process of self-discovery, where dancers explore their bodies, expression, musical connection, personality, and freedom. Over time, external standards can shape movement and lead to adjusting parts of oneself in order to be accepted, chosen, or liked. Growth becomes meaningful when it allows exchange and expansion, without asking to give up parts of who you are. It is a reminder to protect individuality and stay in spaces where the full self is welcomed in dance. by @groovydancy

Are we saturated with dance on social media?😵‍💫

Social media has turned dance into fast, consumable content, often reduced to short clips judged in isolation. This creates unrealistic expectations for dancers and flattens the depth and context of choreographic work. Dance becomes something to scroll through, rather than something to fully experience and sit with. It calls for a return to slower, more present ways of engaging with dance beyond the screen. by @groovydancy

Kele Roberson | @keleroberson

We’re super excited to share the interview we had with Kele — full of insight and beautiful thoughts.

Take some time to read through it.

Interviews are so special because they allow you to get to know an artist or person on a deeper level, find inspiration, and take a moment for yourself to reflect on different topics.

We hope this conversation resonates with you as much as it did with us.

Dance is both personal and shared—pushing your limits while moving alongside others. It’s about feeling, listening, and creating together. Collaboration flows beyond dancers, with music, design, and space shaping the work. And through it all, each dancer grows, bringing their own strength to the collective. by @groovydancy

Be proud of the journey—the choices made, the resilience shown, and the moments of discomfort that shaped growth. Celebrate your unique dance, the style and artistry developed over time, expressed in a way only you can. Value your mindset, the strength to adapt, keep learning, and push beyond comfort zones. And honor the community, the shared experiences, diversity, and connection that make the passion of dance even more meaningful. by @groovydancy

Dance opened me to worlds I had never known, full of diversity, connection, and openness. It taught me to embrace differences, listen deeply, and see beyond my own perspective. Through its community, I discovered support, expression, and the power of shared experience. Dance shaped who I am, expanding my mind, my heart, and my understanding of the world. by @groovydancy

❗️What are you waiting for? Don’t miss your chance. by @groovydancy

Being a dancer is more than performing on stage—most people don’t see the years of training, the long rehearsals, and the endless work behind every movement. It demands strength, creativity, and resilience, pushing the body and mind to their limits while constantly striving for growth. Every performance is the result of unseen dedication, vulnerability, and discipline. Being a dancer is a life lived in preparation and passion, and it deserves to be recognized and understood. by @groovydancy

This reflection explores the idea of “levels of effort” in dance, challenging the belief that dancers must always give 100%. It shows how constant maximum effort can limit both physical wellbeing and artistic expression, and how varying energy can bring more nuance, sensitivity, and creativity to movement. It also invites dancers to listen to their bodies, embrace contrast, and explore more intentional ways of working.

The idea of “leaving your personal life at the door” suggests that professionalism means suppressing who you are, yet true creativity depends on bringing your full self into the studio. Hiding parts of your identity or emotions to fit in can be exhausting and harmful, limiting both wellbeing and genuine connection. Embracing individuality, fostering inclusive practices, and valuing empathy and communication allow dancers to feel seen and fully engaged.
