Mom, I did it.

After 4 long ass years, I finally inched my way to Master class under Carry Optics. I’ll be honest, this year has been rough on my overall shooting performance. I ended the last year with a solid finish at Area 4 but then started dabbling in various side quests with different gun builds and rifle matches, then life in general got in the way.

As a result, major match performances started taking a hit. My baseline percentage dropped from an 83% to a 75%. I spent the last few weeks back on my tried and true Shadow 2, focused squarely on Carry Optics. I shot last weekend’s All Classifier match with a mild goal of moderately increasing my percentage. Didn’t expect to jump up a class, but here we are.

Thank you everyone who has lent me their time, teachings, and honest feedback to get me to where I am now. This sport is unforgiving so I take what I can get.

Special shout out to @ipsc_scholar @craig.templardefense @barbertrainingsolutions @travistomasie @kenyangshoots @tacticaltones_actual @hkimshooting @hevalti.fun.club

“We dun like dem TUPPERWARE gunz here, Sonny”

Last match running the of M&P Metal HD at least until after Area 4. Gotta get focus back on the CZ saddle in carry optics.

If anyone wants the meme edit, just DM me.

“Hmm…. Upgrades”

Footage from a few weeks ago. Took my new @smithandwessoninc M&P Metal HD out for a spin (after borrowing one from @txfarmboyshoots , I was a believer).

The first match basically how the Bay of Pigs Invasion went. The @apextactical trigger shoe is just completely unreliable at least for how I shoot. If your finger isn’t exactly at a specific part of the shoe, the safety tab will lock up everything. I spent the entire match just wondering when it was going to happen. Thank fuck I switched to an @agencyarms shoe. Maintains the same internals without the cartoonish safety tab.

Reloading an M&P isn’t awful but it took some getting used to. It’s a fairly narrow Magwell and the tolerances with a fully packed mag required more effort than I realized. I decided to just say fuck it and threw on a Magwell and make it a limited optics gun.

Adding a calculated kinetics steel insert and a dynamic advantage stippled backstrap helps with balance and grip.

My second match was a night and day difference. Going from 55% to 75% overall, 81% in LO felt good.

Anyways, I’m selling my Glock if anyone is interested lol.

Another fun PCSL concealed carry match.

First time running my @norsso Fuse length barrel and slide in a match. When I’m not shooting shitty @hslammo ammo, things can actually turn out ok.

This time around there were definitely more distance and technical stages that challenged us. One handed distance shooting, forced tight positions, partial no shoots with zero room for error, etc. But every once in a while, we all love to shoot a fun burner hoser stage. Reptilian brain activated.

Thank you @transientforever for loaning me the hat cam, my insta360 was screwing up that day.

4th out of 35 overall, 2nd out of 20 in defensive competition

I could have been someone.

First local USPSA match in a long time. Neglecting to dry fire and arriving with a cold is hardly the best way to prep for a match but I wasn’t about to let @mrrsmith30080 and @b19soup down again by not showing up.

Surprisingly did ok and this had close to 90 people. At one point I had a division win and 2nd overall on a stage until i realized the timer didn’t pick up my last few shots and no one noticed lmao. So my entire performance is unfortunately artificially inflated but at least it wasn’t happening at a major.

*Officially* Placed 10th out of 87 overall, 4th out of 42 in carry optics

I NEED IT!

Shot a local PCSL at @rooftopshootingrangetx . Another fun quick hoser stage. This time around I had the chance to test out the new S&W M&P Metal HD steel frame. I was skeptical in terms of how it’d perform especially coming off my Shadow 2.

To my surprise I was able to pull off one of my best local match performances. It takes some tuning and experimenting but when it runs it runs.

Places 2nd in Practical Optics (just behind @ipsc_scholar ugh), 4th overall out of 65 for the match

Shout out to @txfarmboyshoots for loaning me his gun. Brother, let me know if you change your mind about selling it haha. Thank you @carljason__ for the back straps!

Lone Star State Championships done. And it was probably one of the worst performances in recent memory.

Everything felt off. When I wasn’t moving like I’m stuck in the mud (quite literally), I second guessed and overconfirmed shots that were completely fine, and forgot how to grip my shadow 2. Too much time away from this setup hurt.

Anyways enjoy my first slip and fall in a match. Stage positioning went out the window, I was just happy to remember my target order.

41 out of 129 in carry optics, 104 out of 292 overall on this stage.

“Remember, NO RUSSIAN”

My best stage from BELT, and it was of no surprise, being a flat out turn your brain off completely, hoser stage. Because clearly I wasn’t ready to use my brain last weekend.

What was a surprise was the stage directions. That right, for the first time ever there’s a stage that literally tells you to shoot the hostages. In fact you’re penalized for NOT shooting them. I always knew I’d embrace my American upbringing one day.

33rd out of 122 in defensive practical, 85th out of 285 overall on this stage.

@pcs_league BELT Championships is done.

Despite having probably the worst major performance in years I still had fun with the stages and format. Choosing to shoot Defensive Practical is probably something I’ll never do again at a major if the current equipment restrictions are kept in place lol. 15 rounds per mag quickly became a chore to deal with.

Stages are hilarious, challenging, and fun. There were a ton of prizes and giveaways. Now if only logistics could be streamlined and rules be more fleshed out, it’d be perfect.

Performance wise, didn’t quite find my groove until the end, but by then I was at an enormous deficit. At least I got to shoot with the boys, some of which I had never met in person before.

57th out of 122 in Defensive Practical, 148th out of 285 overall.

46th out of 122 in DP, 112th out of 285 overall on this stage

More TSO footage.

I dunno if you’ve ever shot a match hunger over but uh don’t do that. Not that I was for this major but I’ve done that in the past for more than one local lol.

Nothing much to say about this stage. Literally just go fast and don’t suck. You could have gone any which direction here just as long as you could flow.

You hate to see it.

Late on this, footage from one of my better stages at Texas State Open.

Hard lessons here, don’t disrespect tuxedos at distance. More than once I was shitted on by a mike that was a cm off the A zone in the hard cover.

Distance shooting is a must now in my training.

Can’t believe @nguyen_shoots would have the nerve to call out my Mikes like that 😤

Placed 40th out of 319 overall and 9th out of 88 in carry optics on this stage. Shout out to @unrecognized.shooter for doing quick hit factor math to let me know running up to the last position to guarantee Alpha hits was worth the possible time sink.
