So, I got to visit Amica Wronkiโ€™s old stadium, where Lech Poznanฬโ€™s young reserve team - Akademia Lecha Poznanฬ - play their games these days.

Itโ€™s a charming, old-school experience mixed with something entirely new. Around half of the stadium still looks much as it did back when Amica Wronki were competing at the top level of Polish football.

Today, the club has been swallowed up by the recent champions from Lech Poznanฬ.

The young Lech Poznanฬ lads facing K.S. Wda Sฬwiecie were having a touch time from the very start of the game. The visitors scored the first time they ventured into Lech IIโ€™s half.

Things got even worse minutes later on, with a 2-0 deficit following a penalty and a red card soon after, shown for a second yellow. So there wasnโ€™t really much to say about the final score of 4-1.

Danish double championship-winning coach Niels Frederiksen popped in for a brief look after training with the first team, who face Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League tomorrow.

Along the way, other young academy players watched from their rooms overlooking the pitch at this nostalgic stadium.

And the Amica company is still very much present in small Wronki, even though it withdrew from the club a long time ago. They manufacture household appliances, by the way.

Back in the day, Amica Wronkiโ€™s players were nicknamed โ€œthe chest freezersโ€ - said in Polish of course.

I could feel the weight of history throughout the visit. Even if it was a game in the fourth tier of Polish football, played at the rather unusual time of 12 noon on a Wednesday.

And yes, Brรธndby IF once lost to Amica Wronki here โ€” and couldnโ€™t turn things around in the return leg at home.

On the other hand, Brรธndby IF still exists today and is doing reasonably well, while Amica Wronki has been swallowed up by the big club from Poznanฬ.

So, in a way, the yellow and blue boys had the last laugh, eh? taken in Wronki by @groundhopper_from_denmark

I finally got to see plenty of goals on my trip to Paris.

FCLESLILASOfficiel naturally playing in purple, hosted USA Clichy 92, who apparently play a level below the home side in the French football pyramid.

But this was the Coupe de France โ€” and in cup football, everyone is equal, as they say. Even the lowest-ranked team can theoretically go all the way and lift the trophy in the end.

Stade Jean Jaureฬ€s is located on a hilltop in Paris. I certainly got to feel that on my walk to the ground.

A television tower (I think) nearby made for a very photogenic backdrop, provided you found the right angle.

The pitch wasnโ€™t in the best condition. But at least it was natural grass, which is always preferable.

The assistant referee spotted some rubbish near the corner flag before kick-off. However, he only bothered to remove one bottle from the pitch. The rest was left there to become part of the match. Strange decision.

Les Lilas gradually took a firm grip on the game, but USA Clichy fought hard and gave them plenty to worry about. A penalty to make it 3โ€“2 eventually proved to be the final blow for the brave visitors.

And then the boys in purple started dancing in true African style.

The pitch was surrounded by an athletics track, which was being used by joggers while the match was going on. That was another clue that we were dealing with an early round of the French cup competition.

And it was very hot here in medio September Paris! taken in Paris by @groundhopper_from_denmark

Ligue 1 certainly belongs among the big leagues in Europe. There is plenty of noise in the stands and plenty of talent on the pitch.

That was certainly the case when I visited Stade Jean-Bouin, where Paris FC hosted Lyon, with Danish midfielder Mads Bidstrup putting in a strong performance in the middle of the park.

Unfortunately, Noah Nartey (former Brรธndby IF) spent the entire game warming the bench.

Stade Jean-Bouin is a newly built stadium, and the organisers clearly enjoy showing off the state-of-the-art sound system before the match and during half-time. There was even a controlled pyro display as the players walked onto the pitch.

The funny thing is that the stadium is located just a few metres from Paris Saint-Germainโ€™s home ground, Parc des Princes.

So when the two big Paris clubs meet, you can really call it a neighbourhood derby. I actually almost walked into the wrong stadium โ€” thatโ€™s how close they are.

Modern stadiums can sometimes lack a bit of patina and history. Most groundhoppers would probably agree on that.

With a little more wear and tear, though, Stade Jean-Bouin has every chance of becoming a fan favourite. A lot of thought has clearly gone into the details. It is an architecturally impressive and well-organised stadium.

The area around both the old Parc des Princes and the new Stade Jean-Bouin absolutely reeks of football on matchdays. You can certainly tell that this part of Paris has plenty of experience when it comes to the beautiful game.

Although the match sadly ended 0โ€“0 during my visit to Paris FC, I certainly didnโ€™t fall asleep. The intensity was there from start to finish.

But, of course, you always want a few goals. Or at least some red cards. taken in Stade Jean-Bouin by @groundhopper_from_denmark

I was sitting quietly by the Eiffel Tower when I decided to go and watch this match.

The original plan had been to make my way slowly towards Stade Jean-Bouin, where Paris FC were playing later that evening.

But Futbology revealed this match within a brisk walking distance, so off I went towards Stade Jean Lezer, just south of the ring road surrounding central Paris.

Montrouge Football Club 92 welcomed US Seฬnart-Moissy in an early round of the Coupe de France.

These were two teams playing far down the French football pyramid โ€” teams that probably never have to leave the Paris region to play, considering just how many clubs there are to compete against there.

Stade Jean Lezer is surrounded by relatively modern apartment blocks. A decent number of locals gradually drifted in as the match got underway.

Towards the end of the game, I had decided to order an Uber to take me to the Ligue 1 match. Otherwise, I feared getting stuck in Paris traffic and missing the start of the game.

The score was still 0โ€“0 when I found myself standing outside the fence, following the final stages of the match while keeping an eye out for my taxi.

It was quite nice when the home side, who had enjoyed the majority of possession and chances, finally made it 1โ€“0.

At least then it didnโ€™t feel like I was missing much. With around ten minutes remaining, the match surely had to be more or less decided.

But oh dear.

I was very surprised when I later checked Sofascore for the final result.

The away side, US Seฬnart-Moissy, had somehow managed to progress in the Coupe de France after scoring twice late in normal time.

You should never leave early. by @groundhopper_from_denmark

On Facebook: Groundhopper Daniel and the UEFA 55

It was a really great game between the two leading sides in Moldovan football on Saturday evening.

Zimbru Chisinau hosted the powerhouse from the autonomous region on the outskirts of Moldova, which can be referred to as both Transnistria and Pridnestrovie: Sheriff Tiraspol.

There was a world of difference in quality on the pitch compared to the other Super Liga game we had just watched between Politehnica and Sireti. Zimbru against Sheriff was a pulsating top-of-the-table clash, with plenty of life inside the stadium.

Even though we had reached 8 p.m., it was still scorching hot in the air over Chisinau. Inside the stadium, all the spectators were squeezed together on one side of the ground. And we were sitting TIGHT!

Zimbru had the clear majority of possession and duly took a 1โ€“0 lead in the first half. The goalscorer, Brazilian Caio Dantas, could have put the game to bed from the penalty spot in the second half โ€” but his effort went well wide.

Instead, big Colombian Moreno equalised for Sheriff with a header. The 1โ€“1 looked set to hold until the final whistle, much to the disappointment of the home sideโ€™s noisy supporters.

But then another Brazilian from Zimbru appeared, producing some clever dribbling before finding the back of the net. Twenty-one-year-old Jonathas was suddenly the big hero in Chisinau.

We didnโ€™t spot any Sheriff Tiraspol fans inside the stadium. Getting from Transnistria to Chisinau and back again is hardly straightforward, after all.

This was our final match in Moldova on this trip. It was also the only one of the three matches where we actually paid to get into the stadium โ€” although the price was very modest.

There was even a small concession stand at Stadionul Zimbru. After queuing for quite some time, however, it was a bit disappointing to discover that they only sold non-alcoholic beer. by @groundhopper_from_denmark

It was HOT as hell โ€” 31 degrees, with the sun beating down from a completely cloudless sky. The match between FC Politehnica and FC Real Sireti was on the agenda.

We had taken a taxi to the northern outskirts of Chisinau, where this old-school stadium was part of a sports complex that also included tennis courts and a swimming pool. We would get to enjoy the latter later on.

This was a match in Moldovaโ€™s top football league, known as the Divizia Nationala. It is a very small league, consisting of just eight teams, who face each other several times over the course of a season.

We found some shade at one end of the rather run-down stand, with seats in the colours of the Moldovan flag. However, a stadium steward soon informed us that we were not allowed to sit there. Why we werenโ€™t allowed to is a good question, as there were other people sitting there.

So we moved up to the top row instead. Before long, the shirts came off, giving the crowd a clear view of bare chests belonging to two out of the three Danes in attendance. Apparently, that is perfectly acceptable when some of the locals are also taking their shirts off and getting a bit of a tan.

Later on, we spotted some people smuggling wonderfully cold draft beers into the stadium. They turned out to have come from the pool area.

And so we too ended up refreshing ourselves with half a litre of local beer, freshly poured from the tap. The price was almost laughably low: 30 Moldovan Lei (about 1.3 euro). We should have bought more.

The action on the pitch was a rather sleepy affair. The heat certainly played its part. Home side, Politehnica, really should have taken all three points. But they were seriously lacking in sharpness, and in the end, you simply have to settle for what you get. 0-0.

That meant Real Sireti extended their remarkable unbeaten run of draws to seven consecutive matches. Quite an achievement. They were also the only team to receive any real support from the stands. taken in Chiศ™inฤƒu by @groundhopper_from_denmark

We headed a little south of the capital, Chisinau, as Moldova became UEFA country number 31 in my collection.

A short taxi ride took us to Ialoveni, where FC Victoria were technically the home side. The match was, however, played at Ialoveniโ€™s small stadium, so the home advantage was somewhat limited for the Victoria boys.

It was National Ialoveni who received the most support from the roughly 200โ€“300 people in attendance on the single stand with blue plastic seats, where there was a remarkably generous amount of space between them. That is certainly not always the case.

A few fairly large parasols had been put up because of the scorching early evening sun. The spots underneath them were, however, quickly occupied by local football fans keen to watch a game in Moldovaโ€™s second tier.

Once again, we had to acknowledge that Danish apparently sounds like German to foreign ears. A local youngster approached us simply to find out where these foreigners were from. He was probably also wondering why on earth we had any interest in a match like this. Thatโ€™s often how it is.

The away side, Ialoveni, eventually secured a deserved 2โ€“0 victory. Things certainly didnโ€™t get any easier for Victoria when they were reduced to ten men after receiving a red card midway through the second half. At that particular moment, I was standing outside a fence having a pee โ€” but I could still just about follow the action on the artificial pitch.

We had brought a 2 litre bottle of freshly tapped draft beer into the stadium, along with three cups. We quickly hid it away when a couple of stewards walked past. You never know whether drinking alcohol inside a stadium is allowed in a foreign country or not.

All in all, it was a really good start to our Moldovan football adventure. As for the match itself, the main thing I would say is that you certainly couldnโ€™t fault the commitment.

And with that, Iโ€™ve said very little โ€” while at the same time telling you everything you need to know. taken in Ialoveni by @groundhopper_from_denmark
