What a season of celebration at Groundstar! ☀️🍷

As we look back on summer at Groundstar, we're reminded of the wonderful people and memorable moments that made the season so special.

From welcoming Kurt Russell and @GoGiWines to the vineyard, to gathering with our Groundstar community for Summer in the Vineyard, and celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Sta. We’re pleased to share that Groundstar co-founder Chiara Shannon has been elected 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗮. 𝗥𝗶𝘁𝗮 𝗛𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲.

Groundstar may be the land we steward, but the Sta. Rita Hills is our community—a remarkable winegrowing region shaped by passionate farmers, winemakers, entrepreneurs, and families. Chiara is honored to help champion this special region and contribute to what comes next.

And there couldn’t be a better week to celebrate. The Alliance's 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗲 & 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗙𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹 𝗸𝗶𝗰𝗸𝘀 𝗼𝗳𝗳 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟭𝟯, bringing four days of rare wines, iconic winemakers, vineyard experiences, food, and celebration across the Sta. Rita Hills. This year’s festival is especially meaningful as we celebrate the 𝟮𝟱𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗮. 𝗥𝗶𝘁𝗮 𝗛𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗔𝗩𝗔—with several of our 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗻 winery partners joining the festivities.

The pinnacle of the celebration takes place this Saturday with the 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗰 𝗟𝗮 𝗣𝘂𝗿í𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗮 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟭𝟱, and tickets are still available for select events.

Administered by the Regenerative Organic Alliance (ROA) and verified through California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF), 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗢𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗰 𝗖𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗱® (𝗥𝗢𝗖™) is among the world's most rigorous certifications for agriculture, recognizing farms that go beyond organic practices to prioritize soil health, biodiversity, animal welfare, and social fairness.

Our certification extends 𝗳𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲, encompassing Groundstar's original 𝟴𝟭.𝟱-𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲—including vineyard, rangeland, and native habitat.

When the MINDSET Regeneration & Resilience Symposium was just an idea, Chiara Shannon and Groundstar Vineyard didn't hesitate — they jumped in as our founding Trellis Level sponsor and helped turn the vision into reality.

𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗡𝗲𝘄𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿 — 𝗛𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗰 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗺𝘀 𝗥𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗵 𝗔𝗰𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 🌾 Groundstar has officially acquired the historic Williams Ranch, expanding our stewardship to more than 320 contiguous acres in the Sta. Rita Hills. We are honored to continue the legacy of this remarkable property with great respect for its history and future.

For us, this is about far more than growth. It is about deepening our long-term commitment to regenerative agriculture, biodiversity, water stewardship, habitat restoration, and thoughtful land management across a larger living system of vineyard, ranchland, and open space.

Our commitment also extends beyond the property itself, including our support of initiatives such as 𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗗𝗦𝗘𝗧: 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 & 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟴–𝟭𝟬 in Santa Barbara County. This three-day symposium brings together leaders across agriculture, science, and wine to advance the future of regenerative practice. Groundstar’s own 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗮𝗿𝗮 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗼𝗻 will join the Critical Questions Forum on Day 3 as a panelist, and several 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿-𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 will be pouring at the Regenerative Wine Tasting.

For this reason, we’re excited to invite you to this groundbreaking event: 𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗗𝗦𝗘𝗧 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 & 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗦𝘆𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘂𝗺 (June 8–10)—a gathering of growers, winemakers, scientists, and thought leaders focused on one of the most important conversations in wine today: the transition to regenerative viticulture.

What a joyful afternoon celebrating women in wine!🍷✨

Loved spending last Saturday with the inspiring community @womenwinemakersandculinarians in Santa Ynez, catching up with friends, meeting new faces, and raising a glass together.

A special highlight was tasting the first wine of the 2025 vintage to be released from Groundstar-Grown grapes! Rosy Cheeks Pinot Noir rosé from Natalie Albertson @nativebloomwinery is newly released and SO good! Always exciting to see what our talented winemaking partners create 💕

Growing a more resilient wine country — one block at a time. 🌿🍇

The One Block Challenge™ is coming to Santa Barbara County, and we’re proud to support its local launch as part of a global movement advancing regenerative viticulture.

This initiative by The Regenerative Viticulture Foundation @regenerativeviticulture invites growers to dedicate a portion of their vineyard to regenerative practices — strengthening biodiversity, soil health, and long-term resilience.

And here’s the beautiful part:
You don’t have to farm vines to be part of this movement. The wines in your glass begin in living soils — and when you support the growers and winemakers committed to biodiversity and resilience, you help shape the flavor and future of the wine industry.

The first field day takes place February 26 in Los Olivos. Registration is now open.

The vineyards may be resting, but the sheep are hard at work.

Hundreds of sheep can be seen grazing the hillsides of Groundstar Vineyard. As an essential part of their regenerative farming program, the sheep naturally mow, fertilize and enrich the soil in preparation of the new vintage. And yes, they’re pretty adorable to watch!

Shout out to @cuyamalamb who contract with our local vineyards to provide such a cool and sustainable service!
