Happy Birthday to my beautiful mother!

How do you find the right words to describe the woman who shaped me into the person I am today? Your strength, toughness, wisdom, and kind heart have guided me through life and made me who I am. You have always been there with love, support, and encouragement, and for that I am forever grateful.

Mom, I love you to the moon and back. I hope your birthday is filled with happiness, laughter, and all the love you give to everyone around you. You deserve nothing but the very best today and every day.

Happy Birthday, Mom! Cheers to you! ❤️🎉🥂 by @grubbs.andy

Chester Skateland last skate tonight😢

Where our Virginia journey began!

The year was 1999 September when the Grubbs family packed up and moved from California to Chester, Virginia. All because our friend Cindy Schrader told us there was a place for us to teach skating. That place was Chester Skateland, owned and operated by her mother, Janis Farrow.

At the time, our family of four made the long trek from Fremont, California to Chester, Virginia. When we arrived, the Schrader family opened their home to us for about a month and a half. I had never met Cindy’s husband, kids, brother, or mother before that move, but from the moment we arrived, they welcomed us with open arms. Over the years they became more than friends — they became extended family, whether they liked it or not! Lol.

From 1999 until today, Cathy and I coached alongside Cindy at Chester Skateland. I retired from teaching when COVID arrived, but Cathy still continues on as “DJ Catty Cat,” teaching classes alongside Debbie, Cindy Sommer, and Jay.

Our memories at Chester Skateland are filled with countless hours of hard work with our students, productions and shows, competitions, laughter, and so many unforgettable moments. Over its 48 years, Chester Skateland helped build not only skating champions, but lifelong friendships and families as well.

While many of the original Schrader, Grubbs, and Wright kids have retired from skating and gone on to build families and careers of their own, the memories we created together will always remain. Even though the skating rink may now be gone, the impact it had on all of us never will be.

Our hearts are forever grateful to the Farrow and Schrader families for allowing us to be part of their journey and for making us part of their family.

Thank you for the memories, the friendships, and the love through all these years.

Chester Skateland may be gone, but the memories will never die.

We look forward to seeing many familiar faces we coached and watched grow up in the wonderful family establishment. by @grubbs.andy

Thirty-nine years later, and it felt like no time had passed at all. Cleveland Indians forever.

One hell of a good man—thank you for your service, Michael Ray. I really enjoyed our lunch today and am grateful we finally got the chance to catch up. Let’s not wait so long next time, my friend. by @grubbs.andy
