What if a parking space could be more than a place for a car? 🚲📚🌱

For Park(ing) Day, Georgia Tech planning students transformed spaces in Tech Square into places to gather, create, play and connect.

From a book swap and thrift exchange to a pop-up bike shop, each installation invited visitors to rethink how public space is used—and imagine what else could exist.

Watch our students turn parking spaces into spaces for people.

Big conversations. Real opportunities.

Students from Georgia Tech’s School of City and Regional Planning connected with leading firms and agencies at this spring’s Architecture & Planning Career Fair, building relationships that lead to internships, research roles, and full-time positions across the built environment.

From urban analytics and GIS to transportation, housing, and community planning, SCaRP students are stepping into the field ready to make an impact. Events like this reflect the strength of our career services and the growing demand for planners who can shape more resilient, equitable cities.

The future of planning is already at work.

🌍 Happy World GIS Day! 🗺️

Yesterday, our students and faculty came together to celebrate World GIS Day with an event that highlighted the power and possibilities of spatial thinking.

The celebration featured an alumni panel with
Hanh Huynh (MS-GIST ‘24), Matteo Saracco (MCRP ‘24), Sanica Manglorkar (MCRP ‘25), and Charlie Brummeler (MS-GIST ‘24). They shared how GIS is used in their workplaces and offered insight on the skills students should focus on to stay competitive in the field. Their advice on data visualization, spatial analytics, and communicating across disciplines was especially valuable.

The afternoon wrapped up with a lively GIS trivia session that brought faculty, students, and alumni together for some friendly competition.

Thank you to everyone who helped organize the event and to our alumni for sharing their time and expertise. Celebrations like this remind us how GIS supports planning, decision making, and the design of more equitable communities.

Here is to another year of mapping what matters. taken in Georgia Tech School of City and Regional Planning by @gtplanning

The Bill Kennedy Way 🌆
He didn’t just plan a city — he built trust.

William F. “Bill” Kennedy Jr., Atlanta’s longtime zoning chief, was known for his integrity, intellect, and quiet strength. His impact lives on through the William F. Kennedy Jr. Fellowship at Georgia Tech, supporting students who carry his values of civic responsibility and ethical planning into the future.

“He wasn’t a boulevard. He had a way — a way of thinking, a way of listening, a way of doing the right thing.” 💛 taken in Atlanta, Georgia by @gtplanning

💛 One of our favorite September memories: a day of inspiration, community, and a little urban magic.

🌱✨ What if parking spaces were for people, not just cars?

Our SCaRP students in the Student Planning Association transformed Tech Square into pop-up pockets of art, greenery, and play as part of Park(ing) Day—showing how creative design can reimagine the heart of a city.
