A summer update from our family: We just came back from an unforgettable, week-long trip to beautiful Monterey, CA made possible by the incredible @makeawishlosangeles . It was a dream—Miles, a beach lover and ocean-animal enthusiast, was mesmerized by the exhibits at @montereybayaquarium , exploring the tide pools in Pacific Grove, hiking trails in the Point Lobos Natural Reserve, and digging for treasures in the beaches of Carmel. We all had the time of our lives. Miles is feeling so good, full of energy, in summer school, on the brink of reading. We couldn't ask for more 🙏 Jacob and I continue to keep the faith alive and feel blessed for how great Miles has been feeling.

Our beautiful community showed up today in person and virtually to support Mighty Miles and our family in benefit of @chadtoughdefeatdipg and their annual RunTough event to raise funds for furthering DIPG research so we can one day find a cure. This group of beautiful families and friends have lifted us up with their love and care since Miles’s DIPG diagnosis this past February and we can’t begin to express how much joy, compassion, and friendship we felt today. We love you all and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

The celebrations continued this weekend for Miles’s 5th birthday with an epic bug party at home with all his pals. An unforgettable day with the most amazing community of families. Thank you all for coming and thank you to the creator of magic, my sister @katacumbia for helping plan an incredible party.

Today our Mighty Miles was so excited to go back to his beloved preschool for the first day of fall semester. We are so grateful that with the help of his various medical teams, he is feeling good and ready to be back with his friends.

Today is also the first day of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and our family wants to honor all the kids and their families facing cancer, fighting for cures, those angels who have passed on, and strive to keep raising awareness, having discussions, and showing you first hand how DIPG cancer is affecting our family.

Kids with cancer deserve our attention, our voices, and our unwavering support, and the more we see and know the children behind these "rare" statistic numbers, the more childhood cancer doesn't feel as "rare," and hopefully the need to do something about it becomes pretty hard to ignore, as well.

Our family is participating virtually in the RunTough for ChadTough Defeat DIPG 5K event (which is in Michigan) to raise awareness for this incurable cancer. RunTough for ChadTough Defeat DIPG is coming up on Sept. 27th, and we need your help to turn the map orange.

@chadtoughdefeatdipg is on a mission to have RunTough participants in all 50 states and raise awareness nationwide for the fight against DIPG.

An update: Miles has been having a beautiful summer. We traveled to the UK to visit his grandparents, spent time up and down the California coast, and next we’re heading to Mexico City to be with my family. In between travels Miles has been loving summer school with his angel teacher Miss A., making memories with his friends, and getting into mischief with his BFF/cousin, Zoe. Our Mighty One is full of energy, growing taller, and overflowing with joy. We’ve witnessed the incredible gift and true miracle of seeing him feel so well after radiation—something that, heartbreakingly, many children with DIPG never get to experience.

Earlier this week Miles had an MRI, and today we received the results. It’s not the news we had hoped for: his tumor has started to grow since his last MRI in May. The encouraging part is that his oncologist believes we caught the progression early, and we have an immediate plan to proactively address it. Despite what the MRI shows, Miles continues to amaze us with how strong and vibrant he is. He is truly a warrior. We will keep taking this journey one day at a time and, through all the uncertainty, waiting, and fear, we will continue to lead with love.

Life lately…Miles has been in excellent shape these past 10 weeks since he finished his radiation treatment. It’s been a true miracle. Jacob and I are riding the wave of emotions everyday, but are focused on how happy and super active our warrior is, busy in summer school and with the road trips we’ve taken lately. Our most recent trip was to my dear friend Heather’s cabin in Idyllwild @heathertaylorcabin . Her cabin is what dreams are made of and if you’re near LA, you must stay here. Thank you Heather and Alex for making our cabin in the woods dream come true. We’ve moved house, spent time with family and friends, and will visit Miles’s grandparents in the English countryside this month. 🙏🏼🙏🏼
