CHANGE THE LENS! 👀
When the people protecting biodiversity are part of the decisions shaping its future, protection gets stronger.
From 19–30 October, Yerevan, Armenia, will host COP17, where countries will review progress on the global plan to halt and reverse biodiversity loss by 2030, and decide what needs to happen next.
This COP17, see more, listen differently and amplify the demands of those guarding the forests and ocean. 🌿🌊 by @guardiansoftomorrow_

What happens when our communities manage the lakes they fish?

Beyond Paumari territory, researchers who compared floodplain areas along the Purus River found that pirarucu populations grew by 77% a year on average in community-managed areas, while all the sampled areas without community management had depleted populations.

Knowledge also travels between our Peoples: Paumari fishery managers took part in the first two managed fisheries of the Deni People, in 2016 and 2017, sharing their experience.

Our drop is traveling through territories connected to GATC toward COP17, the UN biodiversity conference, in Yerevan, Armenia. Follow it to Stop 3.

What happens to our forest after the rain falls?

The rain irrigates our forest, which releases compounds that help new clouds form. In a 2010 study, researchers at the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry described this cycle over the Amazon: water vapor rises from our forest, gathers around the particles it releases and contributes to rainfall.

Our drop is traveling through territories connected to GATC toward COP17, the UN biodiversity conference, in Yerevan, Armenia. Follow it to Stop 2.

COP31 will offer less visibility and political space for Indigenous Peoples than COP30 — nonetheless commitments made in Belém are entering a critical phase of follow-up and implementation.

Our next GroundWork briefing will unpack COP31 across three connected spaces: the negotiations, the Action Agenda and the wider advocacy landscape. It will also look ahead to COP32 in Ethiopia, when the second Global Stocktake will begin the next cycle of accountability under the Paris Agreement.

FROM THE CONCRETE JUNGLE TO THE LIVING FORESTS . 🗽🌿
With tipping points getting closer and climate impacts becoming harder to reverse, the cost of waiting keeps growing.
The conversation is global.
The action has to reach the territories and the Guardians are already there. ✊🏽

What if the problem isn’t a lack of capacity, but a system that wasn’t built for territorial realities? 💡 Across territorial funds, women are already showing what happens when funding works with communities, their knowledge, and their ways of making decisions. 🌿🌱
Direct financing from territories, for territories already exists. ⚡The answers are being built. Women are taking the lead. ✊🏽✨

New York is known for big dreams. Climate Week is known for big conversations. The question is what happens after. 🗽💭
For the #GuardiansOfTomorrow, progress means turning global attention into something that can actually reach communities and strengthen what is already happening on the ground. Direct financing can give Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities the resources to advance these priorities and many more from the territories.💸🌿
It’s going to be a busy week, packed with conversations. We’ll be watching to see how far these real dreams can go. 👀✨ by @guardiansoftomorrow_

These are some of the voices from our recent conversation on gender-responsive direct funding for Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities. 🪢

Women leading territorial funds and movements across regions came together to share what they've learned: where the barriers really are, what's already working, and what it means to fund women not just with money, but with real decision-making power.

The barriers to direct financing are not in our territories, they are in how the funding system was designed.

That was one of the clearest insights from our recent webinar on gender-responsive direct financing, where women leaders from our territories in the Amazon, Asia, Mesoamerica, and Brazil spoke about what real direct funding requires and what still needs to change.

Swipe through to see what we mean by passing the power, not just the money.
