Meet THE UGLY DUCKLINGS, one of the newest superhero teams from Butterfly Effect Comics, born in the Bronx and united by a mission bigger than themselves: protecting children who have been forgotten, mistreated, or caught inside the corruption and failures of the foster care system. Set around Kingsbridge Avenue, their story shines a light on children who too often feel like they have no voice and nowhere to turn. Jalen Monroe, Lia, Gem, Tina, and Path are not traditional superheroes looking for fame—they are people who understand struggle, loss, survival, and what it means to stand between vulnerable children and people willing to exploit a broken system. Through their stories, we want to bring greater attention to abuse, neglect, accountability, and the serious consequences that can occur when proper oversight fails. Every member of THE UGLY DUCKLINGS develops their abilities differently—emotionally, physically, and mentally. Jalen’s abilities are connected to nutrition and the strength of the human body; Lia’s telepathy and telekinesis challenge the power and limits of the mind; Gem uses intelligence, memory, and alchemy to transform what is around him; Tina’s abilities revolve around absorbing nutrients and converting them into extraordinary crimson, and Colbert light based power; and Path channels the emotional spectrum within herself, allowing that energy to manifest through powerful phoenix-like abilities. Individually, each hero carries a different strength and weakness, but together their powers begin to connect like pieces of the same puzzle. One hero can strengthen what another lacks, creating an unstoppable force capable of standing against impossible odds and villains whose strength would overwhelm any one of them alone.

At the heart of THE UGLY DUCKLINGS is something very personal: each character is inspired by real people, personalities, struggles, and experiences found within the neighborhood. Their world is built from the Bronx, its streets, its families, its challenges, and the people who continue fighting even when the odds are against them. This isn’t simply a superhero story about defeating villains—it is about giving overlooked children taken in Kingsbridge Bronx NY by @butterfly_effect_comics_

Welcome to the world of BUTTERFLY EFFECT COMICS and our flagship character, Soul Burn. Born from the streets of the Bronx and rooted in the Grand Concourse, Soul Burn is a noir-horror antihero powered by the Ancestral Flames of Hymns—the spiritual power of enslaved people who were brought to America and whose voices, pain, strength, and memory refuse to disappear. When injustice calls, Soul Burn answers. His greatest weapons are the Chains of Injustice, supernatural chains that grow from his hair and represent the same chains once used to enslave generations of people. Soul Burn carries history with him every time he enters the fight.

The Ancestral Flames of Hymns have chosen Soul Burn to confront injustice in the present while forcing people to remember where that injustice began. This is not just a story about superpowers—it is a story about memory, consequences, family, the Bronx, and what happens when the voices of the past finally have someone powerful enough to speak for them. Soul Burn walks through a world of shadows, corruption, supernatural forces, and people who believe their actions will never catch up with them. But when the hymns begin, when the flames start to burn, and when the Chains of Injustice appear, somebody already knows Soul Burn is coming.

And this is only the beginning. The Bronx will become the foundation of an entire BUTTERFLY EFFECT COMICS universe filled with new superheroes, terrifying villains, antiheroes, rival forces, and superhero teams whose stories will cross paths with Soul Burn and eventually collide with one another. Different neighborhoods will have their own legends, their own battles, and their own reasons for fighting—but they will all exist inside the same growing universe. The first issue of Soul Burn will be arriving within the next couple of weeks. Welcome to the Grand Concourse. Welcome to the Bronx. Welcome to the beginning of the BUTTERFLY EFFECT COMICS Universe. 🔥⛓️ #ButterflyEffectComics #FYP #ComicBooks #SoulBurn #Superheroes by @butterfly_effect_comics_

BUTTERFLY EFFECT COMICS is here to flood the industry with powerful Black and Brown characters, beginning with stories rooted in the Bronx and expanding across the world in ways that have never been told before. From individual superheroes to full superhero teams, our mission is to build original worlds, unforgettable characters, and stories that represent communities too often overlooked.

BUTTERFLY EFFECT COMICS will create comic books, anime, movies, short films, novels, and a growing cosplay community—with even bigger plans, including a restaurant in the works down the road. We will also be developing a six-week comic book writing course taught by me, Anton Frankie Negroni, along with an art class designed to help the next generation of creators bring their own visions to life.

Our vision at BUTTERFLY EFFECT COMICS is simple: “If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” One changed perspective can create an infinite amount of stories—and we plan to tell them.

I’m so sick and tired of being patient of being fair and having to pretend to be nice. I’m a good guy, but I’m not a nice guy. For all those family members who abandoned my mother when she needed you most don’t ever contact this house again don’t ever ask me how she’s doing. You’re worse than the system that’s supposed to take care of her. And you can throw all the responsibility on my shoulders because I’m a man and I can handle it. Unlike some pretenders and yes I’m talking about you guys. You got something to say say it but you’re not good people you’re not men and you’re definitely not family. You’re just racist, jealous and childish. Especially thieves. But Mom and I will get through this like we always do. But it’s OK to just be tired to the point of exhaustion that’s the only reason I’m so frustrated. God got us by @butterfly_effect_comics_

BUTTERFLY EFFECT COMICS — COSPLAY COMMUNITY! 🦋🔥🎭

Butterfly Effect Comics is looking to take the Cosplay Community to the NEXT LEVEL! We’re not just looking to showcase amazing costumes; we’re looking to bring characters to life! Imagine your favorite comic book heroes and villains acting out iconic scenes throughout the streets of New York City, turning familiar locations into cinematic adventures! From action-packed encounters to legendary comic book moments, we want cosplayers to have the opportunity to step into acting, photography, and creative storytelling. These performances will be featured across our social media platforms and official website, giving talented cosplayers the recognition they deserve. Whether you’re portraying a famous character or bringing an original superhero or villain of your own creation to life, Butterfly Effect Comics wants to help you tell that story!

We’re also building a community where cosplayers can develop professional portfolios, showcase their costumes and accessories, collaborate with photographers and filmmakers, and potentially be featured at our upcoming Butterfly Effect Comics showcases! We’ve always supported the cosplay community by sharing incredible costumes, accessories, and creative designs through our social media stories. Now we’re expanding that support with a dedicated Butterfly Effect Comics Cosplay Community webpage, where selected cosplayers will have their own features, photography, videos, and character presentations. Our goal is to create opportunities for cosplayers to grow beyond conventions and explore acting, modeling, filmmaking, and character development. We want to celebrate the creativity behind every costume while introducing audiences to both legendary comic book characters and completely original creations!

And what better way to officially launch our Cosplay Community than with ANTI-SPIDER PUNK! 🕷️🎸 A creative combination of Anti-Venom and Spider-Punk, this character represents exactly what Butterfly Effect Comics is all about: imagination, originality, and taking something familiar and transforming it into something extraordinary! This is only the beginning of a movement where the taken in Kingsbridge Bronx NY by @butterfly_effect_comics_

Butterfly Effect Comics is continuing to open the door for artists who want an opportunity to showcase their creativity, build their name, and become part of something growing out of the Bronx. As we move closer to our showcases, website releases, digital comics, and physical paperback projects, artists will have opportunities to display and sell their work, bring their portfolios, create original artwork, and eventually help bring our characters to life on the printed page. Whether your style is graffiti, traditional comic art, Japanese animation, backgrounds, architecture, cartooning, or something completely original, we want Butterfly Effect Comics to be another platform where artists can be seen and appreciated.

A special shout-out goes to Bronx artist Mark Rios, whose artwork has been a major part of what you’ve seen across the Butterfly Effect Comics social media pages. Mark has put his talent and creativity behind countless pieces we’ve shared, helping us visually build the worlds, characters, and energy behind this company. We believe the artists behind the scenes deserve just as much recognition as the characters on the page, and Mark is only the beginning. As Butterfly Effect Comics continues to grow, we want more artists to have the opportunity to leave their own fingerprints on this universe.

And a HUGE shout-out to Wu-Tang affiliate Wufam for providing their music to represent our characters, artists, and the movement we’re building! Their music has helped give our visuals another level of energy and identity. Make sure you support Wufam, look out for their singles and albums on Spotify and wherever you listen to music, and keep watching as music, comics, art, and Bronx creativity continue coming together through Butterfly Effect Comics.

At just 19 years old, Lia Monroe is the youngest member of the Ugly Ducklings, but her potential is anything but small. Her powerful psychokinetic abilities are closely connected to her emotions, which means control is just as important as strength. Lia has practiced relentlessly, pushing herself to understand her abilities and use them to make the world a better place for children suffering within the foster care system. Her older brother Jalen is much more than a teammate to her—she looks at him as a father figure, mentor, and protector who has helped guide her into becoming the young hero she is today. Her connection with Path is just as important, because Path’s understanding of the emotional spectrum helps Lia manage her emotional state, remain centered, and gain greater control over the incredible power she carries inside her.

Born and raised in the Bronx, Lia is also a college student pursuing a future in social work, hoping to help children both with and without a superhero suit. But when the Ugly Ducklings are needed, school books get put down and the mission becomes bigger than the Bronx. Alongside Jalen, Path, Gem, and the rest of her family, Lia takes the fight wherever children need protection—proving that the youngest Duckling may one day become one of the team’s greatest leaders.

Path is the emotional heart of The Ugly Ducklings, a woman whose abilities allow her to sense, interpret, absorb, and influence the emotional spectrum around her. To Path, emotions are more than feelings—they become energy, color, intention, and information. She can recognize when someone is afraid, grieving, angry, confused, hopeful, truthful, or attempting to manipulate the people around them. That connection naturally draws her toward every member of the team, but her bond with Lia Monroe is especially important because Lia’s psychokinetic abilities are directly affected by her emotional state. When Lia becomes overwhelmed, Path can help her identify what she is feeling, regain control, and turn powerful emotions into focus rather than allowing those emotions to control her. Path becomes more than a teammate—she becomes an emotional compass for the Ugly Ducklings, helping them understand themselves and one another as their abilities continue to evolve.

Outside of the battlefield, Path works within the foster care system while pursuing psychology so she can professionally study the connection between emotions, trauma, behavior, and extraordinary abilities. Her education gives her another way to understand not only her own powers, but the abilities of Lia, Jalen, Gem, Tina, and the other children the Ugly Ducklings encounter. Combining psychology, social work, and her emotional-spectrum abilities makes Path incredibly valuable to the team’s mission. She can sense when a person’s words do not match their emotional intentions, recognize patterns of fear or distress in children, and help uncover abusive or manipulative people hiding within systems that are supposed to protect them. Beginning in the Bronx and eventually expanding their mission across the world, Path helps the Ugly Ducklings identify children who need help while also recognizing the people responsible for exploiting, neglecting, or mistreating them.

When Path reaches the highest level of her abilities, she transforms into the Butterfly Phoenix, representing rebirth, healing, transformation, and the idea that experiencing something devastating does not have to be the end of someone’s story.
