Last week, GUGAMS and @mexlawgu had the pleasure of welcoming Mtra. María del Carmen Urías Palma @carmenuriasp to Georgetown for a conversation on public communication, democracy, and the role of institutions in strengthening public trust. 🇲🇽

We are very grateful to Mtra. Urías Palma for sharing her experience and insights with our community, and to everyone who joined us for the conversation.

We look forward to continuing to create spaces that bring the Georgetown community closer to the people, institutions, and conversations shaping Mexico today. by @gugams_dc

It was an honor for the GUGAMS Executive Board, together with our friends from @mexlawgu, to join the Embassy of Mexico in the United States in celebrating Mexico’s Independence Day and El Grito. 🇲🇽

We were especially grateful for the opportunity to continue our conversations with Ambassador @roberto_lazzeri_m, as well as with Dinorah Cantú Pedraza, First Secretary and Head of Border Affairs, Cooperation and Education, with whom we have maintained close communication and collaboration.

GUGAMS has long enjoyed a close relationship with the Embassy of Mexico in the United States, and we are proud to continue strengthening that connection.

We look forward to building on these conversations and creating new opportunities for collaboration between the Embassy and the Mexican community at Georgetown.

Thank you to the Embassy for welcoming us another year and for continuing to support spaces that bring our community together. 🇲🇽🤝🇺🇸

✨ Thank you, GUGAMS 2025–2026 Board! 🇲🇽💙

We want to recognize and thank our 2025–2026 Executive Board for their dedication, time, and commitment to our community.

This past year was filled with meaningful conversations, new connections, collaborations, and opportunities to bring together the Mexican community across Georgetown. None of it would have been possible without the energy and work of our board members, as well as everyone who joined us, supported our events, and helped strengthen this community throughout the year.

We are incredibly grateful for everything this team contributed to GUGAMS and excited for what comes next. 💫

Stay tuned, we’ll be introducing the 2026–2027 GUGAMS Board very soon! 🇲🇽🐶

We are incredibly honored to share that we have been awarded the Medal for Merit Abroad by the Congress of Mexico City, a recognition granted to “Chilangos” living outside the country.

We are sincerely grateful to the Congress and to Congressman Raul Torres for this distinction, which we receive on behalf of a broader community. At GUGAMS, we have sought to build a sense of community among Mexican and Mexican American students both within Georgetown and across the DMV area, create spaces for thoughtful academic dialogue, and foster partnerships that connect us to the organizations shaping the future of Mexico and the U.S.–Mexico relationship.

More importantly, this recognition belongs to the millions of Mexicans living abroad and to those that came before us: to our abuelos, mamás, tíos, primas and amigos. It comes at a time marked by a complex and evolving migration landscape in the U.S., where the experience of our migrant communities continues to be defined by resilience, dignity, and hard work, but also by persistent challenges. Through our collaboration with Fuerza Migrante, we have sought to remain connected to these realities and to support efforts that amplify the voices and needs of Mexicans abroad.

There is still much to be done. Strengthening ties built on solidarity, expanding support networks, and ensuring that Mexican communities abroad are heard requires sustained effort and shared responsibility.

We receive this recognition with pride, gratitude, and a renewed sense of responsibility. 🇲🇽 by @gugams_dc

GUGAMS was honored to be invited to an IDB Group reception on the occasion of the 2026 IMF and World Bank Spring Meetings, hosted by Ilan Goldfajn.

We are especially grateful to Gabriel Yorio, Vice President for Finance and Administration at the Inter-American Development Bank, for his continued support of our association and for the leadership he brings in advancing opportunities for Mexican talent in Washington, D.C. and across the United States. His work and trajectory continue to inspire many of us pursuing careers in public service.

We also extend our appreciation to Sirani Romero for her engagement and support.

A very special recognition to one of our greatest mentors and friends. We are thankful for his wisdom, trust, and generosity, and for consistently making space for others.

It was a pleasure for us at GUGAMS to host the U.S.-Mexico Foundation’s Convocation Congress at @georgetownmccourtschool.

We were especially honored to welcome Professors Kellie Meiman and Antonio Ortiz Mena, whose insights helped frame a timely conversation with Mexican lawmakers on tariffs, trade, and the future of the U.S.-Mexico relationship.

We are deeply grateful to the U.S.-Mexico Foundation and to @enriqueperret for their trust and partnership in making this dialogue possible.

At GUGAMS, we are proud to help convene spaces like this one, where Georgetown faculty, public leaders, and students can come together to engage directly on the issues shaping the bilateral agenda.

Honored to be part of the 2026 IMF World Bank Spring Meetings as Digital Ambassadors in collaboration with the World Bank Digital Transformation Office.

Supporting the Vincula LAC Graduation Ceremony was especially meaningful—an initiative by the World Bank Group in partnership with Coursera to expand digital talent across Latin America and the Caribbean.

Grateful for the opportunity to contribute to such an impactful program, helping ensure a smooth and memorable experience for attendees.

Gracias Yolanda Martínez, @crcarden and @coursera for the invitation and trust. We look forward to continuing to collaborate as GUGAMS ✨

We had the pleasure of hosting, along with Latin American Business Association at Georgetown University, @alvarezmaynez, current National Coordinator of @movciudadanomx, for a thoughtful and engaging discussion.

The conversation provided powerful insights into the party’s agenda and vision, as well as an updated perspective on Mexico’s current electoral landscape.

We commend his continued efforts to engage with university students and promote meaningful dialogue!
