Gilgit-Baltistan, in northern Pakistan, is one of the world’s greatest mountain destinations. International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations (IFMGA)-certified mountain guide Pur Bahadur “Yukta” Gurung has created history by becoming the first person with the highest number of successful Mount Everest (Sagarmatha) summits from the Gurung community.

With his repeated ascents of Mount Everest, Gurung has established himself as one of Nepal’s most accomplished mountaineer and a source of pride for the Gurung community.

During the Spring season 2026, he successfully reached the summit of Mount Everest for the 10th time, while also moving closer to completing all 14 mountains above 8,000 meters.

Gurung has successfully summited 12 of the world’s 14 eight-thousanders and recorded an impressive 28 ascents of peaks above 8,000 meters. Only Mount Shishapangma and Mount Cho Oyu remain to complete all 14 peaks.

During the spring season 2026, Gurung completed three major peak summits within a single season. He climbed Mount Annapurna-I on April 18, reached the summit of Mount Everest on May 20, and successfully summited Mount Lhotse on May 21.

Gurung began his career in Nepal’s tourism industry in 2005 before transitioning into professional mountaineering in 2009.

Double Summit 💪
Everest – May 20 & Lhotse – May 21. The weather was quite challenging 😥 Very windy, but with strong and beautiful people around, no problem — we made it!

Everest on May 20 was especially tough because we spent nearly 2 hours going up and another 2 hours going down in the traffic jam at the Hillary step. 🤣
But Lhotse climbing was perfect — no traffic jam at all, just smooth climbing and beautiful conditions.

Mt.Everest Expedition 2026 Update 🇳🇵
Rotation complete. ✅
We’ve successfully spent:
1 night at Camp 1
3 nights at Camp 2
Touched Camp 3 before descending safely
Now back at Everest Base Camp for rest and recovery before the summit push. The mountain has tested us, and the team is feeling strong, focused, and grateful for the progress so far.

Update from the Everest & Lhotse expedition:

We have successfully completed our acclimatization rotation. We spent 1 night at Camp 1 (6,000m), 3 nights at Camp 2 (6,400m), and touched Camp 3 at 7,100m before returning safely to Base Camp. Now we are having a good rest and waiting for a favorable weather window for the summit push.

The weather this year has been incredibly challenging — very windy with snowfall almost every day.
