For more than 30 years, the Dutch sculptor Mirjam de Nijs has been transforming blocks of natural stone into curvaceous, often kinetic abstract sculptures using little more than her hands and a few rudimentary tools. A native of Amsterdam, de Nijs works from a studio she built on Zeeburgereiland, a small island on the outskirts of the city. The spare, open-air structure is surrounded by de Nijs’ sprawling collection of stones, providing her with an immediacy of inspiration and an ability to work in nature, away from the distractions of urban life. by @guildgallery

The work of Dutch sculptor Mirjam de Nijs often combine smoothed stone with rough patches of rock and the marks of her toolwork—involving everything from spinning saws, to chisels, to delicate rasps—and morph endlessly as you examine them from different angles. by @guildgallery

The self-proclaimed “Mad Potter of Biloxi,” ladies and gentlemen—George E. Ohr. The self-taught American ceramicist’s vessels are technical tours de force, unrivaled in the thinness of their bodies, the control way with which they are shaped—and, crucially, the ways they are misshapen. Ohr’s work is seen as a harbinger of the American abstract sculpture and pottery movement, a significant chapter in the history of American ceramics that rose to prominence in the mid-20th century. taken in Roman and Williams Guild by @guildgallery

He was first introduced to glass while studying at Namseoul University in Cheonan, Korea and has continued to hone his practice as one of the foremost glassmakers in his native country. A limited supply of his singular glassware is still available at Guild Gallery. by @guildgallery

@maggie__wells crafts biomorphic ceramics from fragmented human forms and subconscious shapes. Hand-building each piece through repetitive refinement, she creates essential works that balance contemplative absurdity with a subtly comical edge. Her ceramics prioritize organic surface and shape over technical perfection. by @guildgallery

Ludmilla Balkis sculpts minimalist ceramics that distill movement to its essence. Her monochromatic vessels, crafted from kaolin, pebbles, and local materials, capture nature’s quiet complexity through weathered whites and elemental forms. Each piece embodies a meditative exploration of material and movement. by @guildgallery
