In Hindi, the word gunda was first introduced in the first decade of the 20th century when the British started referring to Veer Gunda Dhur, a freedom fighter and rebel leader from a tribal community in Bastar, as “gunda”. Gunda Dhur was fearless, daunting and unruly in the rebellion against the British and the latter could never catch him. He was our Robin Hood. In turn, they labelled Gunda Dhar for his decisive struggle for the country as ‘gunda’ and made the infamous Gunda's Act for anyone who dared to follow in his footsteps.

Ironically, the tribal communities worship Gunda Dhur as their hero and have been inspired by him in their struggle for fundamental rights. Whenever there are attacks on their life, forest and pride, Gunda Dhur’s rebellion gives them strength. On the other hand, many people express concern that the derogatory terms adopted by foreign rulers for the downtrodden, the poor, Dalits, tribals, and women during the colonial period are still prevalent.

*Sound is the secret of the universe.*
It's an educational journey into a parallel plane tapping into primitive wisdom from the gut, Animism, Buddhism, Islam, Rastafari, Sufism, Vedic rituals and other ancient knowledge.

Sound is healing, it touches deep, it's meditation and deep activation.

We also often use the art of lyricism as harmless weaponry to provoke or sow seeds in the mind. Words act as a warning for the present, acknowledging the horrors of the past and a forewarning to the possible futures.

So‌, let's bid farewell to our dear Underground. Once a cherished soul we held close to our hearts, now torn by the greed of a few, like many others, we poured love, passion, and endless nights into nurturing the underground. But alas, a storm of ignorance swept in and violently ripped it away from us. RIP, my dear Underground.

Beloved members of the Gundaa-Pride, let us unite in a moment of silence, honoring the memory of the UNDERGROUND.

From now on, In GUNDAAGROUND we place our trust.

The word "gund" in Dravidian languages means "to rise". It has been used in a positive way to describe knights and heroes.

Not every story belongs on the main stage.
Caught up with @iggythedoctor the Anjuna boy the creator of @gundaaground carving his own lane through pure sound, late nights, and underground frequencies. No hype. No scripts. Just an honest conversation about the music, the culture, and everything in between.

For the heads who know, this one’s for you. by @father_obnoxious

See how one sample can be used in many different ways using loops and placements!
This beautiful sample of a Pahadi woman singing a folk song stayed with me throughout the whole @vinylambulance tour.

I think my favourite is the 4th slide when i used it in my set for Rishikesh where the loops and its usage was the most experimental and improvised.

1. Mixing it @theirish_manali
2. @monkey.dharamkot was a whole vibe
3. OG sample from a Himalayan queen herself
4. At @mountain_whisper_resort in Rishikesh
5. Dharamkot again by @father_obnoxious
