I Never Seen Blue Like This Before
I have created two en plein air paintings of this scene, each with distinct characteristics. The first piece, completed in a more painterly style, differs from the second, which features more detailed work, executed a few years later. Notably, the color scheme varied on each day.
Which version do you prefer?
Personally, I find the blue tones in the first piece more appealing than those in the second.
The first painting is a 5x7 oil on canvas, while the second is a 6x8 oil on canvas.

I was told that I missed a painting, so I recorded this again.
One of the most detrimental aspects of daily routine is tunnel vision. I visit the studio daily, often overlooking the paintings on the walls, a habit I’ve grown accustomed to. However, while contemplating a redesign of the studio, I noticed the artwork adorning the walls.

Fall Afternoon Fall Hues

8x10 oil on canvas
Available for $145

I find myself longing for fall, when the temperatures cool down and it’s perfect weather for plein air painting! 🎨

This little painting began outdoors and had some extra studio time to bring it all together. I especially love the beautiful fall hues against the soft, silvery sky. There’s something so lovely about that combination of warm autumn colors and cool, quiet skies.

Available for $145. Send me a message if you’d like to make this little piece yours! ❤️

Tranquility
10 x 9 | Oil on board
Available for $245

This painting began as a plein air piece, with some additional time in the studio to refine it. I focused on strengthening the focal point and made a few compositional changes along the way. I ended up removing two of the three rocks in the foreground. Although they were lined up just as they appeared in the scene, they weren’t working well within the composition. Sometimes, simplifying a scene helps bring a painting into better balance and allows the important elements to shine.

I love how these little adjustments can make such a difference in the final painting!

Winter Hues
20X24 oil on canvas
Available: $800 free shipping in the USA

This is a beautiful winter scene, where the snow has melted, leaving behind wet foliage in and rich dark ground. That’s what I was trying to convey in this painting, and I believe I accomplished it.

How many artist add studio time to a plein air painting?
I kept looking at this plein air and there were several things that bothered me, so I put it on the easel.
I am happy I did.

This special day used to be a day of celebration – a day when we took one of the kindest, most loving, and humble women I’ve known to dinner. Now, the day is mixed with both happy memories and one of the saddest memories. With tears, I smile remembering the happy times. My sister brought her flowers! I know she is smiling on this special day.

Happy Mother’s Day, Mom! 🌹 🌹 🌹
