On Friday October 9th, Bonnie Madsen Bruesoff ‘79 received a Gustavus Distinguished Alumni Award! She graduated from Gustavus with a degree in nursing. She has practiced as a PHN with extensive leadership as Director of Public Health for Dakota County. She was instrumental in securing grants, pandemic response, collaborated on the Public Health Nursing Intervention Wheel, and involvement in Henry Street Consortium.

Hi everyone! We’re Katelyn and Ella, nursing students taking over the Gustavus Nursing Instagram to talk about cancer prevention!

Cancer may not be something that college students think about often, but there are steps we can take now to help lower our risk in the future. Throughout our takeover, we’ll share simple and practical ways to focus on prevention, including protecting your skin, avoiding tobacco, staying active, learning about the HPV vaccine, and understanding recommended screenings.

Our main focus will be HPV prevention and HPV-related cancers, along with other lifestyle and preventive care choices that are relevant to college-aged students.

You don’t have to make huge changes all at once. Small steps can make a difference!
