THERAPY. 2024. Installation and Performance. Materials include but not limited to: PVC pipes, cardboard, fabric, SCOBY, plastic, glass jars, wires and cords, NOT URINE, shower curtain and rings, 2 minute video.

Beyond grateful to take part in the @vcuartstheanderson Undergraduate Juried Exhibition from this last semester. With the theme "Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow" I submitted the following to describe the work:

//I felt a strong call to this year’s theme since my work, “THERAPY” is a performance and sustained investigation on space, collaboration, and hyperreality. I view this work as an active worksite with or without my presence through my collaboration with technology, microbes, a fictional identity, and historical context. My futurist depiction of an office/studio space lends itself to the idea of what work and release would look like in a time where identity is stretched between personhood, labor, culture, and spirituality. I borrow visuals from dystopian fantasy, NEET nests, and schizoposting to create evidence of physical decay and an overstimulated mind.
For the theme "Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow", I posit the gestures of presence and impermanence. The cube represents an alternate reality where my subconscious, microorganisms, and machines merge into an inseparable form. I physically enter, alter, and leave the space over time but the performance continues. Electricity flows and bacteria grow outside of my immediate control. Time continues with or without me, regardless of care or neglect. This type of collaboration brings me comfort and leaves me open to surprise. My presence in this work, and in tomorrow, are reliant on connections that I’m unable to see.//

made some brainrot cd covers back in february (i have bad at posting disease). a timeline of online communities and memes I've absorbed over the years. memes count as media literacy right :) the CDs themselves had urban dictionary defintions that i found revelant: hood irony, band kids, fandom, girlblogger, schizophrenia. and underneath the cds are some dried out SCOBY glob juice. essentially a 3 layered case of intangibity/history, hardware, and living thing. 🦠💿🤖 by @gutcoreee
