25 years later, it still gives deep feels. Never forget. Taken from the Bowery area, 9/6/26. #911 by @guthrienutter
This storm actually scared me with all my windows. Glad they held. 80 mph winds scoured through the Capitol Hill neighborhood. In the second video, you can see my power go out (but the streetlights remained on!) Lots of branches and scaffolding down. Cars were pulling over due to flooding several feet deep at the intersection. My patio furniture covers were inhaled and ended up somewhere probably in Maryland. Curious to see what morning light brings. #dcwx #derecho @capitalweather #thunderstorms by @guthrienutter
So neat to have a perfect combination of. weather (rare-ish in DC during late August), sun angle, and launch timing to see an actual SpaceX Falcon launch from 1000 miles away! The launch produced #noctilucentclouds, way above the typical atmosphere layer that produce clouds as we know it. At this time the spacecraft was moving over 15,000 miles per hour! The video spans about 90 degrees (1/4 of the horizon) in just under 2 minutes. Wild! 🤩 #rocketlaunch #spaceweather #spacexlaunch by @guthrienutter
#Sunsets in DC never fail to shock me. Seen from Capitol Hill East, 8.17.26. by @guthrienutter
Late post; my time in Oregon was much needed - a homecoming of sorts. I1- looking west from Woodrat Mountain at sunset with clashing blue and orange layers; I2- holding a bouquet of sun-cured golden grass amid rolling hills of blonde grass and oak trees; I3- holding a bouquet of freshly snipped lavender; I4- diagonal angle capture of fresh lavender; I5- the cone of Mt McGloughlin above ponderosas and fir above blonde grass; I6- looking upwards to Grizzly Peak with blond grass fading into green forests; I7- Looking west from Mt. Ashland at sunset with purplish ripples disappearing to the horizon #Oregon #PNW #mountains #summer by @guthrienutter
Late post: A flight from MFR > SEA last week revealed a fascinating / haunting view of the Cascade Mountain Range during this particularly bad fire season. Image 1: Tahoma; Image 2; Wy’East and the #grasshopperfire plume; Image 3: Loowit and Pahto vertically oriented in the smoke, making a 2-D effect; Image 4: Wy”East up close; Image 5: Mt McGloughlin (tribal name unknown); Image 6: Rippling ridges fading into the horizon, somewhere between Crater Lake and the Three Sisters. by @guthrienutter
Day six of the #eastevanscreekfire #eastevansfire - it’s becoming a daily routine of the fire exploding in the mid-evening hours. I have never seen so much #pyrocumulus from one fire. Taken from Rock Creek Road in Sams Valley. by @guthrienutter
Day five of the #eastevanscreekfire #eastevansfire - the fire spotted and moved in different directions. Conflicted as the sunset made something destructive rather (ahem) beautiful. Monsoonal clouds moving north from Mexico put up some competition to see who could throw color more vividly. Heart goes out to all the residents and firefighters who can’t enjoy this. All but last photos taken from Highway 234 in Sams Valley, Oregon. Last photo was taken off South Stage Road in Medford. #wildfire #orwx by @guthrienutter
Day four of the #eastevanscreekfire #eastevansfire; it had been active all afternoon, but after 5pm, it became a monster. I haven’t seen fire like that up close in over 32 years. All but the last two photos were taken on Antioch Road just north of highway 234. The last two were taken north of Shady Cove. As mesmerizing as #pyrocumulus is, it’s very dangerous for fire crews. Those columns tend to build up from the extreme heat, and then collapse under its own weight. What goes up, goes down. This means wind and dangerous conditions. Sometimes they create their own weather with hail and lightning. In today’s example, monsoonal moisture was creating lenticular clouds up high and the smoke smashed right into it (meteorologically known as pilaeus clouds). Looked like a volcano. #firewx #orwx by @guthrienutter
Day 3 of the #eastevanscreekfire #eastevansfire - taken from Webber Road near Meadows Road in Sams Valley, Oregon; approximately 5:05-5:11pm PST, 7/12/26. #pyrocumulus by @guthrienutter
More varied photos of the #EastEvansFire today; this series (except for the last two at Central Point, Oregon) was taken just east of the intersection of East Evans Road and Antioch Road, about a mile east of the fire when the photos were taken between 4pm-5pm (7/10/26). It is unknown if the photographed area was on fire. By 6pm, it was subject to a Level 3 Go Now evacuation. #orwx #pyrocumulus by @guthrienutter
A rare type of weather phenomena, but from the other side of the country. The #EastEvansFire blew up north of Sams Valley, Oregon. When a wildfire is hot enough, it pushes smoke to high altitudes where it is supercooled and forms #pyrocumulus Viewed from Central Point, Oregon, looking directly north about 12 miles away, taken at 5:32pm PST, sped up about 6 times. by @guthrienutter
