The people of the Mixtape #4

We are so very happy to have Michala Østergaard-Nielsen, together with Lindha Kallerdahl, Nils Berg, Mattias Ståhl and Putte Johander on the mixtape.

Michala’s own words about her song ”A Smile of a Butterfly” (english below):

”Lindha, Nils, Mattias, Putte och jag spelade in den här versionen av ”A Smile of a Butterfly” 2006, och deras personliga röster och tolkningar av låten har följt mig sedan dess. Det finns en klang, öppenhet och frihet i musiken som fångar ögonblicket och skapar en känsla av något som berör – hoppas jag. Jag är mycket glad över att låten nu släpps på en mixtape på Gutophone Records.”

“Lindha, Nils, Mattias, Putte and I recorded this version of “A Smile of a Butterfly” in 2006, and their individual voices and interpretations of the song have stayed with me ever since. There is a tone, openness and sense of freedom in the music that captures the moment and creates a feeling of something that touches you – I hope. I’m very happy that the song is now being released on a mixtape on Gutophone Records.”

The people of the Mixtape #3

It’s an honor to have the Swedish jazz legend Gilbert Holmström play one of his songs on the Gutophone Mixtape. Recorded by our own Malte in Gilbert’s living room!

Gilbert’s own words about his song ”Tricongo” (english below):

”Så, din fråga om Tricongo, som bara av en slump kom upp i mitt minne när du spelade in hemma hos mig:

Det var en latin-jazz version av gruppen Mount Everest, samtida med Hector Bingerts Latin Lover i Stockholm. Congaspelare Arturo Trujillo från Venezuela var den enda äkta sydamerikanska ingrediensen i bandet. Utan honom hade jag inte gett mig på att starta ett latin band. Vi spelade bl.a. i Åhus och även på Montmartre. Med bidrag från Statens kulturråd kunde Arturo utöka från två till tre congas. Han blev jätteglad och för att fira detta skrev jag låten Tricongo som en feature för Arturo och hans tre congas.”

“So, your question about Tricongo, which just happened to come back to me when you were recording at my home:

”It was a Latin-jazz version of the group Mount Everest, contemporary with Hector Bingert’s Latin Lover in Stockholm. Conga player Arturo Trujillo from Venezuela was the only genuine South American ingredient in the band. Without him, I would never have taken on the challenge of starting a Latin band. We played, among other places, in Åhus and also at Montmartre. With a grant from the Swedish Arts Council, Arturo was able to expand from two to three congas. The people of the Mixtape #2

It’s a great joy to have Viktoria Søndergaard on the Gutophone Mixtape!

Viktoria’s words about her song ”Krøllet sammen i min lomme” (english below):

”Det er første gang jeg har indspillet noget helt solo. Jeg er så utrolig glad for at få denne mulighed for at re-indspille nummeret: ”Krøllet sammen i min lomme”, som jeg skrev i 2022, lige da jeg var blevet forelsket i min nuværende kæreste. Vi skrev små digte til hinanden og krøllede dem og hinanden sammen i vores lommer, hvor de altid vil være.”

“This is the first time I’ve recorded something completely solo. I’m so incredibly happy to have this opportunity to re-record the song: “Krøllet sammen i min lomme”, which I wrote in 2022, right after I had fallen in love with my current partner. The people of the mixtape #1

We are so happy to have Ima Baeza Bilgin on the Gutophone Mixtape AND on our label night at @klattermusens.verkstad on the 13th of October!

Ima’s words about her contribution ”ifeelgreat” (english below):

Själva kärnan i låten kommer från en improvisation jag gjorde i Valparíso när jag var på residens. Jag hade blivit bestulen på min väska med en massa viktigt skit i och behövde ta vägen nånstans. Den hamnade på min stackars bassynthmaskin. Sången och stränginstrumenten kom i efterhand när jag fick frågan om att vara med på denna mixtape. Tack för det! Blir aldrig klar med något annars.

(Vad ska du göra på Klättermusens Verkstad 13 oktober?)

Jag kommer att ta med mig lite elektronik, en mikrofon och något akustiskt instrument, troligen min helt otroliga guitarrón chileno. Anledning nog att komma på giget ;* sen får vi se vad som händer!

The core of the song comes from an improvisation I did in Valparaíso when I was there on a residency. I had gotten my bag stolen, with a bunch of important shit in it, and needed to go somewhere. It ended up on my poor bass synth machine. The vocals and string instruments came later, when I was asked to be part of this mixtape. Thanks for that! I’d never finish anything otherwise.

(What will you do at Klättermusens Verkstad on the 13th of October?)

I’m going to bring some electronics, a microphone, and an acoustic instrument, probably my absolutely incredible guitarrón chileno. Reason enough to come to the gig ;* Then we’ll see what happens!

Tomorrow we release The Gutophone Mixtape. The mixtape features music from a handpicked selection of musicians that we love. It brings together a mix of previously unreleased material, new studio recordings, and home-recorded improvisations. We see the diversity of artists and styles represented as a preview of our label’s future catalogue.

We are immensely grateful for all the musicians that have contributed to this mixtape. by @gutophone

Olle Lannér Risenfors plays bass and writes music. On record he can be heard with his own quartet, @primula.band, a duo with @jimbase and @flentheband, to name a few. He is looking very much forward to working with Gutophone.

About us - Marius.

Marius Zeeberg plays the saxophone and is especially in love with music without chord instruments, which can be heard in his own trio and in @bandetflen.
He can, however, also be heard with lots of chords in the trad-jazz trio ’Bart Lewis Jubilee’. He enjoys making album-covers and occasionally mixing, and looks forward to doing that with Gutophone.

About us - Malte.

Malte Wibell plays drums, writes music and designs graphics. His most recent work involves a Stockholm-based big band and his own trio ‘The Best Thing Since Sliced Bread’. Malte plays whatever, mostly music. He loves the idea of an independent label.
