I don’t have the energy this year to write much. I hope you will read other posts with more information in it. Plenty are shared today under hashtags like #MECFSis #MillionsMissing #MEAwarenessMonth #WorldMEDay #DisabilitySOS #GreatestMEdicalScandal #MECFS

A lot of people with Long Covid meet the criteria of ME/CFS, so do I.

ME/CFS is a living nightmare. Before I got ill, I would never have been able to imagine a disease this cruel, with such low quality of life that is also so stigmatised and neglected as ME…

This qoute often goes through my mind:
“ME/CFS broke my body, the indifference of the world broke my heart.” - Christina Baltais, ME/CFS patient (it was once posted with a illustration on @goblueformecfs)

We urgently need more attention for ME and especially more funding for research to hopefully someday have more perspective, a better future, for people suffering from this disease.

@openmedf is a solid and trusted foundation that funds research into ME/CFS.

Maybe, instead of buying something like a drink today, you could consider donating a little to move this very needed research forward.

Dutch initiatives to support are:
De ME/CVS Vereniging @mecvsvereniging
Stichting Long Covid (mainly focused on Long Covid, but they are purely focused on moving research forward) @stichting_long_covid

Lastly: big love to everyone suffering from this disease. I will be thinking of all of you today 💙
I’m so thankful for everything that people with ME have taught us, people with Long Covid.

You paved the way, we are standing on your shoulders.

I’m in awe of the courage, determination and resilience shown time and time again by this community.

If there is a silver lining to Long Covid, let it be that people with ME and other IACC finally get the (medical) attention and care they so deserve.

Een jaar geleden overleed Puck, een vriendin van mij, op 27-jarige leeftijd. Ze kreeg euthanasie.

Nu een jaar later, voel ik vooral boosheid en verdriet.
Ja, ook omdat ze er niet meer is, maar vooral vanwege alles wat ze heeft moeten doorstaan. Dat kwam niet voort uit pech, dat kwam voort uit daden.

Als ik iets voorbij zie komen over euthanasie bij psychisch lijden, sommigen ‘debatteren’ er nogal graag over, dan word ik vooral heel moe. Want de focus ligt zo vaak op het willen gunnen van het leven, herstel, zorg. En tuurlijk dat klinkt heel mooi, ik wil dat ook voor iedereen.

Maar als je deze mensen echt het leven gunt dan moet de focus van je debat af van dat einde: het was het begin en alles er middenin, dat maakt dat dat einde komt.

Vooral het erkennen van het begin, iemand daar écht in zien en het als sector verantwoordelijkheid nemen voor alles wat er in dat midden is gebeurd en nog gebeurd bij mensen nu, blijkt toch echt een stuk moeilijker.

Dus toch maar weer in discussie, in debat, over dat einde. Want we gunnen ze herstel, we gunnen ze zorg, we gunnen ze het leven. Hoe de realiteit voor deze groep er echt uitziet? Dat gesprek vinden we blijkbaar veel ingewikkelder, kijken we liever van weg.

En dus blijf ik boos. Voor mij geen makkelijke emotie dus het gaat niet zonder slag of stoot, maar ik wil het zijn, juist ook voor Puck.
