Mount Harmukh is an incredible mountain and both Gangbal and Nunkol lakes are mesmerizing. Once you are there you get transported to a very different world.

The world deserves to see Harmukh in all its glory. One can ensure ecological harmony and enable Harmukh to the world. I hope to see this happen in my lifetime.

Yesterday the annual Gangbal Yatra started. Next year will try and do this as a pilgrimage. Till then enjoy this reel from my trek in 2023.

I had my first brush with Matcha Tea in 2015. I had ordered it online and all the bells and whistles.

More than the tea, it was the sense of occasion that made me happy.

Even today, the entire process of making a good quality matcha tea will be more satisfying than the drink itself. I do have a palette for bitter taste and as such like the tea.

However, the matcha this and matcha that we get in the market is nothing but sugar induced dopamine hits.

Enjoy it for the ceremony part, the drink then becomes incidental.

Made Kashmiri Mutsch after years, remembering @neelamkaulwatt, she would make an incredible mutsch.

A few times she made mutsch of fish in milk/curd, unheard in Kashmir. She herself would not permit anyone at home to have fish and curds. But then . . .

The mutsch has turned out incredible, it is light and fluffy, very unlike the dense and heavy traditional one.

Come have a bite!

Yesterday was Mata Roop Bhawani’s Birth Anniversary and I happened to be there at the new temple by chance. What an incredible coincidence 🙏🏽💕

The new temple at Chasme-Sahibe has been constructed at the original site, a site where Mata did her first sadna.

The new temple has been constructed by Shri Alakha Sahiba Trust. They have done a phenomenal job. I would say that they have set a benchmark for any reconstruction attempt that is made in Kashmir by Kashmiri Pandits.

It is a beautiful Mandir where the statue of Mata and her father/Guru, Pandit Madhev Joo Dhar gives the feeling of a living statue. The floor is covered with pateje, flooring made of grass, which in turn transports one back in time.

The temple also has a magnificent Shivling.

While there is still some work to be done but the temple is a must visit. If my mother was alive she would have been beyond joy seeing the new temple.

Mata Roop Bhawani’s story is an incredible one as well. Her father Pandit Madhev Joo Dhar was a devout follower of Mata Sharika, the presiding deity of Srinagar. His tapasiya was so intense that Mata appeared and asked him his wish. Pandit Ji asked Mata to be born as his daughter and thus was born Mata Roop Bhawani.

Mata was spiritually inclined since the beginning but was married at a very young age. Unfortunately, her mother in law was a difficult woman and would trouble her and taunt her husband a lot. One day she was on her way to Parbat and her husband was following her. Soon a lion appeared and prostrated before her & so did a bunch of nearby residents. Mata saw her husband and offered her hand to him, saying that she would help him cross this world. He in turn got terrified and ran screaming that she is a daen(witch) . . .

Mata Roop Bhawani continued on her spiritual path and continued her sadana at several places in Kashmir before returning to Srinagar . . .

Every evening when I walk after dinner, I see this Husky in Galleria market, Gurugram. The typical temperature at that time would be around 35-40 C depending on the day.

Husky as a breed was developed by Chukchi people in Siberia to pull loads over the Siberian frozen expanses. They are designed for sub zero environment.

When I look at this Husky, I see him as a Kashmiri Pandit migrant and wonder what he must be thinking in 40°C temperature.

He sits calmly with his owner outside a fancy cafe, while the owner sips coffee. His calm demeanor is borderline delusional, something that excruciating heat would ideally do to a Husky and a Kashmiri Pandit.

Wouldn’t the genetic composition of the Husky make him dream of the vast expanse of ice, of falling snow, snow blizzards and wild runs pulling the sleigh? I am sure the owner takes great care of him but does the Husky actually care?

If we ask the Husky to choose between his owner & the sitout outside the fancy cafe in 40°C, or running wild in the Siberian expanse, I am sure we all know the answer. But this Husky will never be asked that question. Why? Because this Husky is a migrant, that’s why!

And what is true for a migrant Husky is also true for a migrant Kashmiri Pandit!

It turned a bluebird day!

The chairlift at Kangdori is extremely well executed by Poma. Great piece of engineering!

It gives skiers a beautiful long run with excellent gradient for advanced skiers.

I wish we had a few @prinoth_snowgroomers on the job every night so that the slopes in the morning were ready for action.

Gulmarg deserves so much more @omar_abdullah_jk and above all a long term vision. Happy to help always. @nasir_sogami

My Matamaal is in Habba Kadal, I mean it was 🥺. I went there after 36 years.

This video is a sad one but it is for my Nana, Nani, my mother who might have watched this from the heavens.

This is also for other Kashmiri Pandits who lived in Habba Kadal, it might bring some memories back.

We are down, we are out, but I hope we are not over.

Since 1975, Gulmarg has seen many skiers over the decades like Gul, Ayaz, Sandy, Dad, Ashraf uncle, Aju, Krishna and many more and of course the kids on the block now . . .

But guess what, there was only one OG, the one Gangsta, the one Maverick, Vijay Kaul

I went back Skiing after 36 years and this is dedicated to Vijay uncle. To the legend!

Next year, I will do a back flip (will be a first in Gulmarg) in honour of the men who made Gulmarg what it is today, the folks at IIS&M.

PS: I did put on skies a few times before but always for 10-15 min on a baby slope, that does not count.
